the eeprom is not replaceable on the 172. the guide shown is for williams and valver ECU's
the ECU on a 172 can be flashed but the equipment to do it is quite expensive
lumpy running is usually normal, excessive lumpy running where you can see the rev's rising and falling on a warmed up idle is more to do with a knackerd lambda sensor
vibration through pedal when braking. warped or damaged disks
scraping noise when braking < pads worn? pads worn
rumbling when braking. < loose mountings? wheel bearing, loose wheel bolts or worn pads/disks
excessive free play at pedal. fluid low
Also to add to the thread,
buying a used engine is all well and good but ensure you see it running before you fit it. Make sure the drive shafts are good and the gearbox is ok... most cars have been in a crash and the boxes dont survive.
if you get a subframe with your kit make sure it isnt...
They are around £250. The first thing to do is clean it out with some carb cleaner, oil from the breather tends to muck up the TPS built in the body. ive fixed loads by simply cleaning them up.
when it was plugged in what computer or diagnostics machine was it? if it wasn't a clip then you may have problems cancelling or erasing some faults you need to leave them to go out on their own. they tend to go out if there are 3 seperate starts with no error.

Gear selector seal wont cause the 'stop' light to come on. they all leak even brand new ones leak a bit to keep the rod lubed up nice.

when i have a break i tend to have a coffee. regards to fluid take engine cover off looking at the engine left, back the resevoir is down near the aircon pipes undo the cap and top up
check pad wear also
