    Strange sound through speakers

If noise is NOT present with engine OFF then it can't be head unit earth track fault.... If noise is NOT present with RCA leads removed whilst playing with engine running it would indicate faulty head unit earth track.... Seems your problem is a poor amplifier earth.... Without RCA leads...

    power cap install???

The most common sizes are, ( 0.5Farad, 1Farad, 1.2Farad, 1.5Farad etc etc), but the larger units, (5Farad, 10Farad, 200Farad etc etc), are usually rectangular....Certain manufacturers,(Audiobahn for example), opt to make rectangular caps for the 'bling' effect.... There are units called...

    power cap install???

Your approaching the problem from the wrong direction mate.... How you plan on using your equipment governs how you need to wire it up.... If you plan on using your system with engine OFF, then everything should be fed from the isolated boot battery, (as in it needs to be 'split charged')...

    Strange sound through speakers

With system switched OFF remove the RCA leads from the amp... Start the engine & switch on the stereo as normal...rev engine... Noise still present indicates a 'ground loop'.... Relocate amp earth to a better site & ensure its attached to bare metal godd & tight... Noise not present indicates...

To save confusion I thought I would put all relevant sketches requested in one place....so here goes; POWER CAP; POWER CAP (inc remote switch-on lead) PARALLEL BATTERY CONNECTION; SPLIT CHARGE CIRCUIT; Usual suspects; 1, Faulty battery, a single dead cell would drain both batteries...

    battery going flat any ideas

using a multimeter or test light between the battery -ve terminal & the cars chassis simply remove & replace fuses one at a time till the multimeter reads zero or the light goes out....When this happens you've located the circuit at fault & can limit your searching accordingly..... As a word of...

    sub instal question

Without knowing what equipment you currently have, or what you plan upgrading to, I can only offer basic advice..... Firstly you need to ensure your power supply is adequate, most stock power/charge circuits will support upto approx 1kw rms, if your exceeding this you will need to look at a...

    best components i can get....

With regards Coustic components; Have a read HERE , interesting thread started by a current iasca judge..... You shouldn't judge a product on price alone..... It's 90% installation 10% kit.....

    Battery cable

Not many responses here is there..... Firstly you need to consider the likely draw, then consider the distance between the battery & the starter..... An average starter motor will pull around 20amps unloaded, (as in sitting on a bench spinning itself), but spinning an engine is a different...

    Need help valuing this equipment.

With the headunit being the Mini disc version value will suffer, I would look for no less than £100 for the matched pair.....(forgot about the mini disk version tbh lol).....Sound quality is still much better than the later Sony stuff though.... Good luck with the sale....

    subs

Both links are the same mate..... The Alpine 9855 is a fine unit, but going from your final statement it would appear you may not fully grasp the effects of 'clip' or indeed how your mono amp & head unit should be set up..... When using an Alpine head unit the amps gain control should be set...

Alpine Head unit cuts out then, powers up straight away

The Alpine 9833s are cracking units, if its cutting out then its a loose connection or voltage issue.....(obviously lol).... Head unit; This unit has a few quirks that can manifest in certain situations....To address these you should; 1, Fit a direct fused battery feed to the Yellow on the...

    Need help valuing this equipment.

Hi mate, Basically its worth as much as someone is willing to pay.... Due to JBL bargain deals, prices of used amps have plummeted, but if you hold for the right buyer you may make a few quid.... As a rough guide though.... Rally amp----£20 to £25 Kenwood amp----£40 ish Kicker amp----£50 ish...

    audio power shortage

Can't really offer any detailed advice without the relevant info.... But, a stock Clio charge circuit in good order should be able to support around 1kw rms in a daily driver playing mainly music.... To gain a better idea you could ADD all the claimed amplifier rms figures together, (thats at...

Difference between no amp and with amp

Read This Thread, Post 1, Item 6 .... Fitting an uprated head unit will help, but voltage drop within the unit will still be an issue..... A good quality head unit should supply around 18w rms per channel without clipping, to avoid clipping you should never push a head unit past approx 80%...

    Show me your tweeters !!

I think we both have different views with regards ambient sound.... IMO a setup that emulates it is going to sound more natural, (as in shut your eyes and you could be in the audience), it would appear you prefer the recording studio sound where ambient sounds aren't produced.... You should...

    Show me your tweeters !!

When you go to any indoor 'live' performance you will experience sound reflection from behind you....to emulate this all head unit manufacturers offer a 'front/rear fader....Obviously the bias is set to favour the front channels considerably.....

    Show me your tweeters !!

With simple 2 ch stereo you lose so much, with rearfill you can emulate a more ambient sound.... When using no rearfill you can struggle to mate the two sound sources, (sub in boot and front speakers), perfectly so the overall effect becomes disjointed....You can address this by altering the...

audio people.....what amp for this sub?

The sub linked to is actually a 4ohm dual voice coil sub, so the coils wired in parallel would present a 2ohm overall impedance..... Unfortunately this means most 2ch amps can't be bridged to run it, so I would be looking for a small mono amp capable of delivering at least 300w rms into a 2ohm...

    Square Subwoofers?

Square subs give extra surface area so added spl, (louder)..... But, the 'Kicker' squares all sound crap, if your chasing numbers then square would be the best option, if you plan on listening to music & want decent quality then go with the 'Diamond'.....
