OK so we have now established the following about the valve;
1) Does not help with engine warming in winter.
2) Does not improve torque at low revs.
3) Does not reduce induction roar (the air-feed pipe does this & not the valve).
Any more theories out there?
How do you know this? As BenR has said above its not been documented?
I believe Renault did it because like all manufacturers they have to make compromises to meet emision targets etc.
I've removed mine and replaced it with a nice 85mm feed from the fog light.
I have also asked the question from the panel of experts over at the rs forum, just waiting for a reply.
But I still don't understand why Renault saw fit to have two feeds from the air-box?
While I agree that the the 2nd air feed does not point towards the engine, it also does not feed down behind the bumper where the air is bound to be cooler?
In your professional opinion what does the valve do then and why was there never one fitted to the mki 172?
The 'acoustic valve' closes to help warm the engine up quicker on cold days. By closing the main air-feed it forces the engine to draw in the warmer 'engine bay' air from the second feed. It also helps reduce drive by noise levels.
It does not IMHO have anything to do with increasing low down...
Not had any problems with my Janspeed exhaust. I too felt that the car performed better with it fitted, but too be honest the car had not done many miles then and has loosened up a lot over the last 9K miles.
I've owned cars with loud exhausts before and went for the Janspeed 2.25" bore...
The mk1 172 never had one fitted, & some same this is the quickest of all Renaultsport Clios??
I believe it was added to meet drive by noise restrictions - just waiting for confirmation from the panel of experts on the rs forum.
No problems with MOTs, no change to mpg, only effects have been...
Here's mine, I'm still experimenting with air feed position at the moment - any advice would be appreciated. Performance feels improved, especially after 5k. Pick-up from low revs feels better also. Plus I've got a nice induction roar!
Maybe in your opinion but where is the proof or factual evidence?
Superchips might not be as you claim to be the best but I find coming out with comments that "Superchip are poo" dosen't help anyone make a desision as to what product to use/buy.
I haven't made my mind up yet as to which...
What a load of waffel. :rasp:
I never said they were the best, only pointing out that they can't be 'poo' if they are successful and been around for so long.
That must be why they are the market leader in the UK and have been since 1978.
And why VW Racing in the UK use them for there racing GTI's.
I guess its becasue they are the biggest and have been around for a while that they are easier to knock.
I planing on having a custom re-map done to my car soon. I will be using Sanspeed in Bexleyheath. They use the off the shelf Superchips re-map as a base and then modify the programe to get the best out of my current set-up etc.
Total cost inc rolling road £350.
I've owned mine for around 4 years now without a single problem.
The mounts use two sets of magnets (4 in total) and if they are placed in the wrong way round the unit will never sit straight and rattle.
