If we all adopt this loose weight, more speed thing - wed certainly learn alot - we should organise a test with Mk1/2 172/ Valver/Williams/1200 16V/1400 16V/ 1600 16V/ 1800 8V etc cars and use them as dummys - strip out the interior minus the drivers seat and see what times we get - obviously...
Here we go again............. Both nice cars - Id like both in my corgi collection - read this months PGTi for the answer - any modded car will beat any other modded car - period - depends how much money u have, but a s standard, the 172 will ultimately come out tops against a standard R5 GTT.
Guess with the Cup then I should be hitting high 15s to 100 seeing as 172s are meant to do 100 it in 19 or 20???and the official time is 16.9 for a cup???
BTW all this 172/CUP business ?? They arent the same - theres enough reviews, road tests and aerticles around now to prove that - go read them. Different motors just like the 16V/Williams! Its Like comparing a valver to a willy - yes there are similarites, but the buck stops there. Cups 0-62 is...
Totally agree guys - reckon the Golf would have gone in the uncool section aalong with the seat - wonder how the 172/cup would have faired around the track with the stig in it - pretty well Id imagine
Anyone gonna buy the stigs chrsitmas album - forgive em fi I scewr up my wrods tdoday - Im...
Paddy and Wongy - didnt you read the start of this post - my Dad has a 330 Ci and yes my Cup does beat it - not by much to 60 about a car length and then there level with the Beemer pulling away slowly (155 top speed)! Oh but I must be making this up.................of course!
I agree - Honda Civic Racing Type R or Imported Integra Racing Type R!!! CTR/ITR = More Road Precence!
New Scooby in a few years for me I think - have to do the Jap thing and Ill be 30 in 3 years - too old for a 172!
Mrs wants a second ahnd V6 also!
No 172/Cup featured - we need to write in and complain!!!!
O-60 for R32 in 6 secs - ud kinda expect that from a 3.2 litre V6 with 240BHP - bit slow really and as Clarkson said much rather have a MK2 GTI or G60!
Interesting about the Jag - 300Kgs striped out gave a 1.2 sec quicker dash to...

Get some Stateside wheels in chrome - big - dont like front bumoer - its a tad much for a clio (less is more in my books) the rest looks the biz - big civc type R touring car spoiler on the back would look the biz too - see CCC magazine this month!
the 150BHP is the GT TDI badge all other diesels are badged TDI inc. 110 and 130 unless of course the owners have slapped on a dummy GT badge! Golfs are slow these days even the new anniversary GTI and R32 especially isnt any quicker than the 172 CUP for example...................
Exactly - did everyone (including Jase1) buy their car for show or to actually drive it hard??? Why spend hard earned cash on a ROAD car and not push it under the right conditions etc..............beats me I sure as hell bought the cup to blow the wind in a few faces!
