Kelly, looking at the modded 172s it would seem that adding aftermarket bits can actually loose power on a highly tuned engine - the only 172s that gave the best figures at the wheels were the two unmodded ones!

Article in Evo was immense mate although they done a similar article on the standard integra type R import in issue 39 (williams/172 cover) and they recorded a 0-60 of 6 whereas the racing type R is 6.5 and its lighter ???? Hmmmmm whats that all about!

Exactly - its hard to compare cars that are modded - thats why i tend to compare cars according to their standard performance figures - obviously a standard scooby will take to modding and show bigger gains than a smaller powered or capacity engined car will - have to look at that also? If we all adopt this loose weight, more speed thing - wed certainly learn alot - we should organise a test with Mk1/2 172/ Valver/Williams/1200 16V/1400 16V/ 1600 16V/ 1800 8V etc cars and use them as dummys - strip out the interior minus the drivers seat and see what times we get - obviously...

I agree - Honda Civic Racing Type R or Imported Integra Racing Type R!!! CTR/ITR = More Road Precence! New Scooby in a few years for me I think - have to do the Jap thing and Ill be 30 in 3 years - too old for a 172! Mrs wants a second ahnd V6 also!
