First of all i would change the oil - use 75/80's semi synthetic......this usually cures the problem. Its a common fault on the JB1 / JB3 / JC5 boxes. If the problem persists your box will be faulty

My personal advice is stay clear - but thats my opinion. They are good fun to own and attract a lot of attention. They have the same road power as a 172 but dont handle as good as one. Its one of those cars you have to own to scratch the itch.....you will get bored of it very quickly and sell it
