Right... it's update time, since I've now got some more pictures.
First of all, I know the car is filthy and needs a clean.
Next on the agenda is fitting the replacement battery terminal that I haven't got round to doing...
The Vee looks OK with 17's (is that what size they are?).
That's different though. It's not an ordinary run of the mill Clio. The body panels and the proportions of the car are all different. On ordinary "mere mortal" Clio's 17's and above are just too big.
Get a 3GS instead. Not massively better than the 3G on paper but they're leagues ahead when it comes to actually using them. They have a few improved features (and some new ones) but they are noticeably faster than the 3G.
At around 14:30 this afternoon. Who was it?
Had CS stickers on the side and back windows and an aftermarket exhaust. I nodded at you and you flashed me as I came off at J26.
- The steering wheel is crap.
- The automatic wipers have a mind of their own.
- The automatic headlights don't come on unless it's pitch black outside.
- The seating position is too high.
- The standard alloys are too heavy (IMO).
Great write up. You seem to be choosing mods that improve on the standard car and don't look out of place.
Any long term plans yet or is it just an ongoing thing?
EDIT: Oh and out of interest, where did you get those plates from? Wouldn't mind a similar thing myself but in blue.
My 172 has done 79,000 miles and is still on the original gearbox. It was also on the original clutch until a week or two ago, but it was only the necessity to fit an uprated one that meant it had to be changed. And it gets caned everywhere.
The clutches are generally very good in these cars -...
Get down here and take some then. Teat!
Sump key worked a treat. Didn't have a bar to go through it though so used the adjustable spanner on it instead. Did the job fine.
You have to weigh up the pros and cons of each TBH.
I went for the turbo conversion over any of the other options because I wanted to keep the air con and I love the wave of torque from turbo'd cars.
I'll post more pics and videos soon. I need to get my hands on a better camera really, or...
It's not really far off dead centre anyway. I didn't fit it, K-Tec did, but I think it's positioned there for "packaging" reasons (i.e; to make it fit behind the front grille). If it was any more central I think the grille would have to come off and the bottom of the bumper cut out slightly to...
A crappy camera phone pic taken this morning to try and show how much of the intercooler you can see. It's going to make quite a nice little sleeper when it's all finished.
I really must get a better camera though, SRS.
I'll get some taken when it's had the rest of the work done.
Need a passenger to hold the camera TBH... It's evident from the torque steer at the minute that I'm gonna need both hands on the wheel...
Iceberg photoshoot? Me come? :D
It'll give me the motivation to actually clean the car for a change. Got out of doing it last time 'cos some kind person at K-Tec did it for me :approve:
No it's the high pressure turbo (stage 2).
It's currently limited to 0.5 bar boost and 5,000rpm. It's got to go back to K-Tec in a couple of weeks when it's been run in a bit for its final oil change, boost increase and mapping. And to get rid of the SERV, ESP and "wiggy line in a square" light...
Nope. Definitely not.
They're pretty much exactly the same in a straight line as a new shape Golf R32, and I know for a fact a 172 isn't as fast as one of those. Stripped out it might be a bit closer but still no standard 172 is going to trouble one much.
I told Greenlight about my new "mods" about a month ago when I took the policy out. Told them it'd be done by the end of this month and they were fine about it. Didn't cost me anything and covered from the moment I picked the car up.
