This happens to me all the time, infact the first time I insured mine all they asked me to confirm was that it was a 16v... I was amazed at how cheap my insurance was... then I got my certificate saying it was a 1.2 campus! lol
They kept the price the same though... unfortunately it's gone up...
There's a sensor on the rear axle, and I think it only levels if you've got a crap load of stuff in the boot. It's by no means as intelligent as a system in a BMW...
I got a new sensor for mine and it was like £3... I've tried to make mine level before, out of curiosity, but I can't seem to do...
When I bought my 172 one of my Xenons was yellow, a few days later it went pink and then stopped working completely!
I got a set of D2S bulbs off ebay for about £20 each (bought a pair so the colours matched)... decided on 8000k and they've been awesome. Far better than £80 each or something...
If it's like a grinding/rubbing noise that suddenly started happening... I once had a stone wedge between pad and disc!
Very unlikely but who knows. Sounded like my wheel had fallen off when it happened to me!
You have to take out the wiper linkage, unplug the motors, undo one (or maybe two bolts, lift out the tank and gently remove motors.
Removing the wiper arms was the hardest bit for me. They were seized up, but the linkage is quite easy to remove.
I reckon it may be the sensor for this on your rear axle... Mine was doing this and got it replaced. It cost me about £3 for the sensor.
I'm not sure exactly where it's located on your rear axle... Maybe your brother knocked it when doing the work?
Although I'd have thought both sides would...
There's a sensor on the rear axle. I had mine replaced at a specialist. The sensor was about £3!
I'm not sure exactly where it is. To be honest if the level is ok I wouldn't worry. I tried to adjust mine manually and the adjusters popped out and took me ages to fix em! Lol couldn't drive at...
The NGK ones I got were the correct gap, no need for adjustment.
NGK PFR6E10, according to Fred from BTM which I just found in another post. They're definitely what I put in mine.
There's also a guide on changing plugs on here somewhere. Check It out it's pretty good.
Hope it sorts it for...
I had this exact problem.
Mine was resolved by changing plugs, I got the required NGK PRFe6-10 or whatever they are off ebay for about £30!!
It hasn't done it since, not enough to notice anyway. I do need to change HT leads but all is good at the moment. I did it my self and it only took...
Hey,
My gearbox is generally fine, no crunches!
Sometimes it won't go into gear and I have to double clutch but I've experienced that in a lot of cars! (very, very rarely, changed oil and it's pretty much sorted)
My real concern is that when in reverse, there's like a rattling sound, usually...
To be honest, if I'd have known I'd have taken the lights out and had a proper look my self. I'd imagine it's only difficult when they're on the car because you can't see what your doing.
If you do manage to get them back in I'd probably go to a garage to get them aligned so they're not to...
Yeah it's in as far as it will go, I was expecting a click as I've read that somewhere before.
Speed is accurate. Once I get home and it's cooled down I'll have a look. The old one came out really quite easily, and the new one has a similar level or resistance. So it's probably OK. No harm in...
I had this EXACT problem... Couldn't drive at night for days!
Took it to a specialist and they replaced the rear sensor on the axle (which wasn't faulty...) but it was only like £2 or something.
Anyway, basically I'd wound them out to far and the arms had popped out of the adjuster, therefore...
Changed! Finally know how fast i'm going! lol
Was pretty easy to get when I realised it sits at a slight angle... Spend ages pulling straight up, but it leans slightly toward the cabin of the car.
Once I pulled in the correct direction it came straight out. New one slipped straight in...
Tried what you suggested
There's not a knocking as such... Buy there's a judder. Nothing audible that stands out... (apart from the noise described)?
It couldn't be gear box related... Could it?? I don't lose power or anything. I suppose if a gear box made that noise it'd go bang, so...
As everyones said really..
I had exactly the same problems. I ended up having to replace;
Checked the tyre pressures, passenger side was 30, drivers side was... 65 psi! lmao
Rear Axle Bushes (Starting to wonder if this was really needed but it got the car tracked correctly! It was way...
Hey guys.
I have a 2002 172 with a gearbox driven speedo.
I wondered if anyone could advise if this sensor would be the correct one for my car?

Thanks.
Cheers guys,
There is some movement in engine when rocked tbh. I'll compare the movement to my mates... there's bound to be a little bit right?
If it is exhaust related then that'll be eliminated soon as I'm going back to standard... or stealth. Got some horrid 3 inch oval tailpipe hanging...
Hi again... lol :-)
I don't floor my car often but some t*at gave me no choice this morning. I've noticed this before and I'm pretty sure it's mount related. Planning on getting them all changed when I get some money saved up anyway!
Basically, it only happens in first gear. If I floor it, it...
Sorry it took me a while to reply.
The ignitor on the OE xenons is attached on to the bottom of the bulb. Well not attached but it locks on to the base.
I tried to find the kit I used on my old 1.2 to see if it had them. I can't find it. To be honest I can't see it having ignitors.... Not...
Hi Guys,
I've had my 172 since February 14th 2010 (The Mrs wasn't happy I spend most of Valentines day messing about with it but oh well! lol), and depsite the £100's I've had to pay out to get it to a decent standard I LOVE IT! lol
Anyway, it came with a really cheap induction cone superglued...
I had this problem on my 172, one of the bulbs wasn't working. Swapped ballasts, still happened, swapped bulbs round as well, still happened.
In the end I bought a new ignitor, sorted it out. Was only about £15 off eBay, I also got my self some new 8000k bulbs... although saying that with a...
