I had similar issues. Although my steering wheel was constantly off centre! I ended up needing new rear axle bushes, which sorted the alignment out, and some of the jerking/snatching.
The car still handled poorly on the front end so I put some decent tyres on the front and it's spot on now...
Sorry guys!! Forgot I'd posted this.
Fred I will be coming to see you at some point. Wanna get a new dephaser pulley sorted out as it sounds like a tractor on idle ATM!! Convinced timing is out as when I changed plugs there was some residue on the plug on cylinder one.
I did email you asking...
Clayed the car about a month ago. And I always use maguires canubra wax (or however it's spelt!)
However. After washing the car etc... I realised I had none left so used some six year old turtle wax! Lol!
Quite impressed really considering!!
Correct! Most likely.
Mines gone I'm just waiting to get paid before changing. I've heard the sensor is about £20/£30.
I took this pic of mine the other day to check it was the right sensor and I've been told by the CS gurus that it is!
Hi guys.
Read a few posts on the whole warning light scenario so don't worry about that to much.
I had a look under the seat and the wrings a right mess! Nothing like the passenger side at all. There are cut wires everywhere and connectors all over the place.
Can you pick up a set of these...
Mine broke on the day I got the car!! lol!
I welded it back together, and then got charged £158 for just the fob with no blade! Got a blade off ebay for a couple of quid and the lock smiths next door cut it for free!
Spotted this morning turning onto queens road. Think you have a magnex exhaust? About 08:15.
Think I saw you again at about 530 on castle street in Hinckley as well.
This probably won't help, but I recently thought my rear drivers side bearing had gone. Turned out my rear spring had snapped, it was causing a very rumbly noise whilst driving.
I replaced both springs, and shocks (rear drivers side shock had gone too so basically NO suspension on that wheel!)...
My speedo sensor is dying as well.
If you have an early 172, or a cup then it should be on the gearbox. Otherwise it's something to do with the abs.
The picture is the location of the sensor on my '02 172. There's a heat shield which I've removed btw.
Fitted two new shocks and springs today! Drives like a new car.
Passenger side was ok, I'd lost a huge chunk off the drivers side spring, AND the shock was gone on drivers side too!!
Thanks.
Cheers pal. Dunno why I'm worried about breaking it. It's on it's way out. Lol
Not had chance to order one yet, just wondered if cleaning would help. I'll leave it for now. :)
Hi guys.
Wanna make sure this is the right sensor before I take it out to check/clean it.
It feels like it needs to be removed with a spanner??
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for the input.
Compared it to my knackered one and it's fine. Just expected it to be ultra hard to compress.... Lol!
It does return by it's self, when I tested it in the morning I was late for work so didn't really hang around. Lol
Hmmm... I can compress this new shock really easily... and then to return it to where it started is nice and smooth with lots of resistance.
Faulty unit?
Hi guys...
Never had to change a shock absorber before so never really had the chance to look at one.
Just got some new ones through today ready to be fitted at the weekend. Should there be resistance in both directions of travel? Or just on the way back up??
Thanks... Be kind! :o
Don't know if this will help but I just ordered two new OE rear shocks and two new rear OE springs from North West Performance... £50 each INC VAT for the shock with postage of £8! (Springs were £35 each!)
Mine is not a cup though! Might be worth giving them a shout to see how much the cup ones...
I'm really excited... Lmao
I've been thinking the shocks have been gone for a while! Thought I may as well do both at the same time now I have a concrete reason to start taking things to bits.
One of my coil springs has just given up! There was a loud crack the other day and now it creaks like an old door when compressed! Had a look underneath and it was rusty as hell... Gonna replace my shocks and springs as I'm sure my shocks are a bit like Dunn's!
I'll be ordering mine from North...
Cool! They don't sound THAT bad then...
Decided to stick with OE for now until I start getting commission at work.
They gonna throw a big wad of cash at the car... coilovers, solid mounts... turinis... and get rid of my horrid exhaust... I dunno... just gonna buy half of K-tec I think! lol
Right!
Ordered two rear OE springs, and got some shocks as well... even though they look OK i'm pretty sure they're crap!! lol
Ordered them from the marvelous NW performance! :-D
Are there any torque settings I need to stick to for the shocks/springs??
Cheers pal,
It's about three hours away so not really close enough.
I've posted a wanted ad for some used sportlines. If none come up soon I think I'm just gonna have to stick some OE rear springs on for now. Mega skint ATM. Lol
Lol cheers James. I thought they would be as they're cheap...
Things always go wrong when I have NO money! I might try and hold out to see if any come up for sale on the forum.
