Yeah will probably buy a valver. I just wondered as I saw somewhere that the box off the 1.4 would fit and thought I could maybe do it on the cheap if that was the case. Thanks edde.
Just a few questions about this conversion (being done to a Mk1 Ph2 1.4RT clio).
Are the engine mounts the same for the 1.8 16v as the 1.4RT?
I believe you could use the 1.4 gearbox with the 1.8 16v but would this be likely to break in no time or would it be OK, same question for...
looks like a good day out. One of the best days of the yeat so far TBH so you picked a good one.
Hopefully I'll make the next one and add a Mk1 (hopefully 16v) to the mix as I've still not been to any meets yet.
iirc Clio_Mk1 might have an RSi rear axle, but he is based in Falkirk which might be a bit away from you. I might be wrong about that anyway but I know he had loads of RSi parts.
Also, from what I have read on here before the rear brake discs won't make a huge difference as they don't affect...
Not really sure TBH mate but I'm guessing there might be something else affecting it if it's temperature dependant. Do a search on some old posts as these sort of problems seem to creep quite often.
What car is it?
But surely if it's fine before and after 2k RPM then it's not just coming on cam? I don't really kno wbut sounds slightly like what I sometimes get when starting from cold, and that definately is a problem as it's not there when warm.
The downpipe joins onto the end of the manifold and connect to the CAT. If you look under the bonnet you will see the manifold merges from four pipes to 1 pipe and it it just after they have merged you will see the dowpipe joined on there.
Not a dumb question if you don't know mate, I...
I would say get the wheels balanced to start with as thats the most common cause. If that doesn't sort it then it's likely to be more expensive to get fixed.
I take it you have taken into account the fact petrol prices have gone up a lot since then?
I'm not sure about valver MPG tbh but you are getting about the same as I get in my 1.4RT and I know I have got some sort of problem with my RT as I am only getting 70miles from £10 which is less than I...
Nice clio - but I would definately agree with putting 15's on it.
When you say it took 2 and a half days to do, how many of you were working on it?
I keep getting tempted with the idea of putting a valver engine in my own 1.4. It's nothing special but I love the idea of a sleeper.
There are quite a few Renult Sports aboutin Edinburgh now. I saw a clue on te toher day and I think (only caught a glimpse) it's number plate was A172 CUP.
Justin 182 - What uni do you go to?
As for all the Jambos and Hibees - your support the wrong team, look further north ;)
did the owner have the V5 for the car? That should have all the details about the car and the original model I would have thought, as well as confirmin the plate was OK etc.
There are a few on here with both conversions. I know that Mole has a 1.7turbo in his and DJW_Dave is in the process of turning his RT into a 1.7 volvo Turbo. You will probably find a lot of information on it if you go to the old forums at forum.cliosport.net and do a search as I'm sure there...
lol, yeah he's a good player - he's more of a grafter than anything, I don't think we realised how vital he was for us till he left. He doesn't seem to really like staying in one place for too long though - maybe that was just aberdeen though.
The exhaust started blowing on my clio (Mk1 Ph2 1.4RT) the other night on the way back from work and today I had a look and found that the manifold to downpipe gasket was split.
I managed to get the old gasket off fine but having put the new one on I can't get the bolts with the springs on...
So does no-one know what the sitution would be if I were to, for example, buy an item off someone through paypal but didn't recieve it so put through a chargeback?
Would I be likely to recoup my money?
Why was this thread moved to technology BTW? wouldn't have thought it would really come...
You can lower it by 55mm on 15" wheels with no scrubbing as long as you use 195/45/15 tyres - or so I'm told. You would have to remove the arch liners but IMO not much price to pay. I just think that 35mm doesn't look low enough TBH.
No, why do you ask?
I'm actually hoping to do it asap as it's like a bloody 4x4 at the moment. I've got some -55mm springs but just haven't got round to fitting them.
I'm from Edinburgh so not too far away. Theres quite a few on here from around the sort of central belt area. I think Clio_Mk1 is from falkirk and also Martin_89 (I think thats his username) IIRC
lol, it was just because I thought that picture looked like the clio I was interested in and when I went to migweb I noticed the same guy was selling a 2.0 corsa.
Thanks. I know you can't really put a timescale on it but I just wanted a rough idea if we were talking 10's or 1000's of miles. LIke I say it's been giving the odd screeching noise for about 5000 miles but it's only started to make a rattling noise in the last few miles.
Mole - was it when...
