I know of the 5GT Turbo and the Volvo turbo conversion but are there any other conversions that can be done to a Mk1 clio relatively simply (not 16v or RSi engine).
I quite fancy doing a conversion in the summer but don't know what would be best. My car isn't anything special but I think I...
Unlucky mate - there is hardly any difference between the two so they look almost identical. To get the bearing done at a garage should cost you about £30 max (25 for bearing and 5 to press it in). Get that confirmed before it's all done though as I got screwed over by a garage as he said £30...
Thanks mate but I know how to actually lower it (read that and some other before) - it's just the bloody torsion bar caps and getting a spanner for the strut top that's stoppping me
It just depends TBH mate. I could be a right bugger with nuts that won't come off etc or it might go smoothly. When I first did mine my car was off the road for a week - but that was just because I needed to replace the bearing in the new hub and get a new balljoint and my parents had gone off...
On a Mk1 1.4RT what size is the nut on the strut top. I believe it's 21mm but could someone confirm that? (it's a bugger trying to find a 21mm deep spanner!)
When undoing the strut top do you hold the nut and undo the alan key or vice versa?
How the f**k can I get the torsion bar covers...
There is no way of giving a definate answer unless you know the spacings. The answer is yes as long as the spacing is the same.
The hub I got from the scrappies to put on my 1.4 clio came from a 1.2 and I've had no problems whatsoever.
What is the minimum I would be looking at having to spend on a navigation unit to get something half decent?
Just wondering as my mum needs something to get my dad for christmas and I know he likes the idea of getting satellite navigation. Ideally it would just be one of the stand alone...
I remember asking this ages ago mate and I don't think many had them built in as I couldn't think of where to put it either.
One option I thought of te other day would possibly be to extend where the head unit goes down the way and put it in there. It would look pretty smart but I think the...
Well that's the thing mate - I don't have any budget set I just want to see what I can get for my money. I don't really know too much about ICE so don't know how much I would have to spend to get some half decent ones.
Ideally no more than £50 TBH but if it wouldn't be worth the money buying...
What cheapish speakers would you suggest I could get just as an improvement on the standard ones. I'm not looking for amazing sound quality but just something better than the standard ones.
I've not really got a set budget but just want to see what is availiable without spending a fortune...
Are you sure there was no play what so ever if you try and rock the wheel holding it at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock - there should be absolutely no play whatsoever.
Bearing from the rear won't fit on the front. The hub from a 1.2 should fit if it's the same bolt spacing between the hub and strut bolts - it will be 52mm or 54mm. To sort the bearing he will need to take it to a garage to get the bearing pressed out and a new one pressed in.
Thanks, again. I'll just use a screwdriver for the pin. I'm planning on replacing:
Driveshaft pin
Gearbox Oil
Hub to strut bolts
BalljointsCan't really think of what else to replace at the moment. I've decided I', going to keep my car for a while yet (was going to sell) so I want to et...
Looks like I've started something here, lol. I'm just wanting something pretty cheap that isn't going to be really crap sound quality TBH. I'll have a look through some of the links in this thread.
If anyone has any other suggestions let me know.
Thanks.
Mine has a white cover over it but I'll remove that and see what colour it is. Can anyone say either way if there is only one type for 1.4 engines as I would like to get that done tomorrow but don't want to get the wrong one.
One more thing actually - what do I need ot use to get the pin out of the drivers side driveshaft? I presume that I would need to buy a new one for re-fitting the clutch?
Are there any other things that need to be replaced when putting everything back together?
OK, thanks for all the help mate. I'll probably bring this back up when I start the job and f**k something up lol. I don't even have to replace the clutch TBH as it's the release bearing thats needing done but if I'm taking the box off I suppose I might as well do the clutch.
Does anyone...
When the guy did yours how did he get enough room to move the box across - did he remove the arch liners?
Cambelt was done about 3,000 miles ago so thats not needing done and also I don't have any way of getting the engine out and not really anyone who knows much about cars to help so I'll...
Thanks mate. I'll be removing the struts on both sides anyway (wait for another post soon, LOL) as I'm going to be fitting lowering springs whilst doing the clutch anyway. I've got a haynes and i've had a look throught the job but wanted to find out from some people who have done the job...
