Clio 1.4 to 1.8 16v conversion

Car  S2000
Just a few questions about this conversion (being done to a Mk1 Ph2 1.4RT clio).

Are the engine mounts the same for the 1.8 16v as the 1.4RT?

I believe you could use the 1.4 gearbox with the 1.8 16v but would this be likely to break in no time or would it be OK, same question for driveshafts?

For the suspension would the 16v strut be a straight swap for the 1.4 RT one (my hubs are 54mm spacing - same as 16v IIRC) or could you even just use 16v springs on a 1.4RT strut?

If you can do the above two things is anything else needed other that engine, loom, ecu and better brakes for the conversion?

I'm just considering this as a 16v engine wouldn't be too expensive and it would give me a bit of a project. Would the conversion be all that difficult, as I've not had to take an engine out before and don't know how bad a job it is but I reckon from what i have seen that it wouldn't be too bad if I take my time to it all.

Thanks.

Nope mounts will be different you'll need the 3, 16V mounts
1) The dogbone
2) The one on the drivers side engine top mount
3) The one the battery sits on.
Use the valver box i don't think a 1.4 would even fit to small clucth for starters 1.4 used the JC1 boxes valvers use JC3
Struts are a direct swop i think you need the subframe as well.
You need loom ECU patiance and a good garage of tools but the bodys of the cars were almost the same so its a direct fit as such.
Best buy a valver personally save the effort or buy a crashed one and you get everyhting you need to swop.

Yeah will probably buy a valver. I just wondered as I saw somewhere that the box off the 1.4 would fit and thought I could maybe do it on the cheap if that was the case. Thanks edde.

When you thing sell your car for however much you'd be best buying a whole valver for the swop sso say £500 then the work and bits you need say another £100 in parts thats not ar of what you cna get Williams or a 1.8 16V for.

If you wanted i have a valver for sale for £150. Need the space, was goin to try the engine conversion myself but have no time for it. has all you need but a gearbox and that'l only set you back about £50, had one lined up about a week ago. Let me know what u think.

Where are you based mate?

Probably not interested now though as I just bought myself a valver yesterday.

Sorry dont have it now, neighbours complained to the council so she had to go. I still have the full engine, ECU, loom, driveshafts, subframe, radiator etc. all the bits needed for a conversion. Its done 80,00 miles, just in need of a gearbox, had one lined up for £50.

Hey just seen this thread, the question that im in search of the answer for has been asked in here

"Will 1.8 16v springs fit directly onto 1.4 RT shockers??"

Any help will be highly appreciated!!

Cheers Dan
