JC5 129 is a 172 cup box. A lot of 172 gearboxes dont have a speedo drive as the speedo is powered by the ABS system ( through ABS sensor on hub ) . The JC5 129 has a speedo drive which makes the box a little rarer to get hold of second hand. I dont know if your aware but the CUP doesnt have ABS.
Common faults of the clio 172 cup
1 - always check the gearbox ( JC5 129 ) check for synchro's crunching when changing gear and keep an eye out for the box jumping out of gear and also any winding noises on acceleration.
2 - engine mounts - these break for fun - check for clunking and...

"As per usual, the car has had few minor faults such as a dead electric window switch and a dead wheel bearing.

Buy a complete R5 turbo thats been bumped ( nice n cheap ) and use it as a donor car. Fit the complete engine / transmission with all the ECU and loom. Its an easy transplant as the earlier clios used a Renault 5 engine ( 1100cc C1G type ) so the mounts are identical.

Williams had no involvement at all - Renault used the name to build 400 road cars so they could go rallying back in 93 with the clio. It was so popular and ahead of its time they ended up making thousands.
It is pal.....after a lot of messing its spot on. Its taken 12 months of tinkering but to have a reliable 400hp 1.8 engine does - its a case of patience and money. I have yet to fit Mickey thompson racing slicks and my 75hp NOS kit which should propel me into the 11,s, but im gonna run it in...
There was a fantastic standard looking R5 there running 12.0 flat @ 115 - amazing stuff. Had a good talk to the owner who said it had about £5000k of engine mods. He had 240bhp. He was getting 1.8 0-60 foot times which is outstanding for a fwd car !!
OK here is a sensible reply - the Subaru is the better car...FACT. The mechanicals are far more superior and have more potential for tuning. The clio V6 has an L7X engine which is an old unit that isnt very tuneable. For example a good friend of mine has just bought an 18 month old STi ppp and a...
