Personally if you want to get the most from any spring then you do need to upgrade your dampers, the OE ones don't like being compressed overly much.
Prolines are quoted at -25mm/-30mm, sportlines are quoted at -35mm/-40mm. Prolines provide a better ride than the sportlines additionally.
My Konigs are wound to the bottom, and they're wound to the bottom.

Use AutoGlym bug and tar remover, very good stuff!
For getting your marks off, try using a small amount of T-Cut on a lint free cloth and work it into the affected area's, that should remove any marks it's left.
The lad can just afford a PH1 172, asking him to save 3x that amount for a Trophy i think is somewhat academic lol.
IMO I'd have a 172 PH2 FF as you get performance + comforts + nicer interior ;)
