A mac will read a windows formatted iPod no problem:
You can only format (i.e setup) a Mac format iPod on a mac, you can't format it to windows, so if you want a Windows format iPod you have to do the initial firmware update & format on a PC.
I'm not sure if this second one applies anymore...
You could just do a reinstall and select "archive" when you boot from the install disc. This will reinstall OS X and move your old installation to older named "Previous System". Once you've reinstalled you can copy across what you want. No need for an external drive.
Just be careful that...
Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management
Then in the tree:
Shared Folders
Sessions <- click on this.
Should show who is connected to what share.
And if you want to keep your mail and stuff (if you use "mail") then just replace the one in the new systems library with the one from your old system, that way you don't have to re-enter or re-import mail.
It will be clean.
What I'd actually do is...
Re-install a clean version of OS X. Bring it all up to date with software update.
Copy across everything in your "old home folder" barring the "library" folder (this is where apps keep their settings).
Copy across the applications you want from...
You know the reason behind it being like that though don't you?
How many times have you tried explaining to somebody how to do something....
..."click the right hand mouse button....no, your other right!"... that's the historical reasoning behind it, easier for novices to understand if there...
Have you used omni-graffle on the mac? It's bloody brilliant, I used it to make rather spiffing looking flow charts for the user documentation for a piece of windows software.
I've been doing some stuff in C# at work recently and while it and .net are actually pretty good technology I still feel like I'm using a "toy" language because of its speed. I'm amazed at how slow winforms and graphics stuff actually is in it.
Nice language (well it's C on steroids). Nice...
Spotted a williams (trying) to pull out across the traffic to head towards the A14, would have stopped to let you out but didn't see you until the last minute and the people behind might not have appreciated me slamming the brakes on!
But in 5 years time the mac laptop will still be running the latest version of OS X nice and quickly and won't have depreciated that much. I suspect the PC won't be running the latest version of Windows very well and will be virtually worthless.
You pay your money and you take your choice. :)
So you've made the move, given it a couple of months and then gone back to Windows land I presume?
Mmmkay. What the hell are you mumbling on about?! :S Please enlighten me.
Except that it is fundamentally more secure by design and it's far better than this "(Fade In), Are you sure you...
Ahh, Adobe fonts. There used to be a free a font manager on the adobe site that allowed windows to use them, adobe font manager deluxe or something like that, no conversion would be necessary.
If it's already an opentype font then you're good to go.
If it's a truetype font (mac format) then use this
It it's a truetype font (pc format) then you're good to go anyway.
The Sky+ £10 subscription is stopping on the 1st of July, so the only extra cost is the price of the box.
It's well worth the £99, it's blooming marvellous!
:S Not seen that, all the sites I have in transmit are password protected and I never get prompted. Will have a look later when I get home to see if there is anything obvious.
