I have a suspicion that that translucent multi-wire connector might be hooked into the speaker wires? I'd unplug the unit, test the stereo, and see if it still works. If it does then obviously you can cut the connector and remove the wires. The button should be fine to go though.

Good work sir. Personally I listen for the right RPM so shift lights don't really do anything for me, but good fun to have all the same.
Nice work. I managed to get to Deeside year before last, but only just half an hour before they all packed up! It's a huge setup and really impressive.

I'm fairly sure the wiring for the buttons comes up from below, so by moving the buttons further down you don't need to extend the wires.
It would require some fairly significant modification though, probably best to take the lower dash out of the car and cut the framework out and put it back...
Went exploring with a mate after watching Bloodhound, and found a little gravel road. I know there's a few scooby lovers on here so thought I'd share.
His car needs a little more work to get it perfect (most notably front bumper) but otherwise it's pretty well sorted.

Fairly sure the inlet plenum popping was because with early engine firmwares it could backfire through the intake in rare circumstances... bang. Should be sorted on any car with service history by now. PCV...
