I always check they match up. One letter was written wrong on a previous car. Papers said it was a 0 when it was in fact a D on the chassis from memory. Never caused any issues. OP, still interested to know if your two numbers were completely different or just slightly out?

Looks identical to my Milltek one. But they normally have a plate welded on with the product/serial number. I guess all cats will looks pretty similar anyway though!

Try pressing up on the roof lining near the interior lights when it happens. See if the noise changes pitch.

I have a Milltek cat back with decat. Without the decat it was barely any louder than the standard exhaust for general driving, but really sounds beasty when giving it the beans.
