alot of aftermarket headunits have the feature fitted in.. you can have it so it dims when the headlights are switched on.. 95% sure its so when your in the dark cab at night you havent got bright lights all over the place pissing you off..lol

Re: Discovered my 172 is a Import got a 182 end of june. as regards the import.. go back ASAP and explain that you was told the cr was full UK spec car when its infact and import.. point out all the facts i.e. no alarm locking wheel nuts window etchings. try blagging about 500 quid...
