Its basically ok at idle then between 1-2k it sounds like someone is whistling under the bonnet over 2k it goes then on the way back down the rev range it starts up again at 2k and stops at 1k. Turning the air con on makes no difference. Could it be an air leak on the charcoal canister...

If its whirring i would say it was either the aux pulley of the aux tensioner pulley. I changed both mine last week and put a new belt on. The pulley bearing was quite noisy and worn. Car sounds 100 times better now though.

Do I just support the engine with a jack and a block of wood to remove the mount?

It can be done without removing the dash but its 100 times easier without the dash there and it only take 10 minutes to remove it.

I'm still missing skin from tackling the throttle and clutch cable the other week!! All part of the fun of owning a french hot hatch!!
