I went for 3 days last week without a dose of Cup as i had to take my step bro's Mk 4 Golf GTi (yawn) into work to get it back into working order as its been on our driveway for 4 months whilst he's been out in Afghanistan, so i used it as my runabout.
Gettin back into the Cup late Thursday...
Thats EXACTLY what i felt in it today....a very accurate assessment there Roy.
Was almost drumming my fingers on the steering wheel waiting for the power to kick in and then THATS when i crashed into the limiter for the first time.
I've noticed that about Seb....his must be running on Bio-Eth...
Today i felt more aware of its size. Partly because you feel part of the car, sat lower rather than perched too high as in the old car.
It doesn't feel unwieldy though!
Its a strange situation where the extra weight does and doesn't let the car down!
It handles so well, but its almost like...
That car really does look good....its way more muscular and purposeful looking than my Cup...and in a colour very similar to Mondial, the proper name of which has escaped me right now, it looks fantastic.
Had another go in one on my own today, around some of my favourite local roads.
On this...
Ahhh what a beaut....
Just been picked up and bought home by my mate who works for Renault and he has a 197 for the weekend...have to say it keeps eating away at me that car. It looks awesome but then seeing my car all cleaned up in the 197 xenons as he dropped me off made me realise im still...
Bah....get them off Steve! You know you wanna turn to the Turini side!
Actually this thing i have of seeing Ultraleggs on certain clios and liking them, and then on others and hating them, is turning out to be true.
There is a Ph1 172 parked near where i work and it looks lovely on them.
Strange.
Its all in your head...by hand....honestly!
Looking good tho. Thing is about silver is its hard to get looking super glossy, and it rarely comes out in a picture.
Darker colours always gloss up well...i.e Rich's Black Mirror, my marvellous Mondial.
Yes i did mine today as well.
Believe it or not you don't have to spend 700 notes on H&R's to improve it.
I've recently changed the springs for a second hand set of Eibach Pro's and its improved it massively, and it was darn good anyway...and it only cos me 75 quid.
If you aren't looking to spend a fortune and you aren't...
All you people who drive Cups in the winter constantly worrying or nearly ALWAYS having accidents, learn to drive properly!!
Its wet, slow down, pay attention.
Its cold or icy, slow down, pay attention ( actually that goes for everyone...ABS DOESN'T SAVE YOU ON ICE)
And to those of you who...
Well that price is a lot less than it was 6 months ago!
This really is futile all this "mines faster than yours" molarky....good banter but futile.
I'd love the 197's quality in my Cup, but thats about it....i prefer the rawness, but i have utter respect for it as a piece of engineering and as...
As long as YOU think its fast, i really don't think it matters, but i still reckon the 172 "chavchariot" would show it a clean pair of heels.
Well mine would....ooooh the controversey!
Are the 197 owners gettin all defensive because they feel like they have to justify all that money in the...
Hmmmmm! Well im impressed. You officially have my 5th favorite 16v....and im not usually a fan.
The other 4 i like are 2 tinkered with naples valvers, a mint Williams and Midges hybrid, but yours looks the most original.
I approve.
4.75 ltrs is the exact amount you need. Alot of people hark on about needing 5 but the book says 4.75.
Just put roughly 4 1/2 ltrs in and then add a bit more after.
Overfilling can be worse than not putting the final 0.25 of a litre in!
All depends on the quality of the finish that you want.
As they say, you buy cheap you buy twice.
Look for refurb companies that shot blast and powder coat if you want the whole wheel redone. The finished wheel will look better than how it did new!
You'll be looking at about £50 + per wheel...
I have noticed Autocar and Top Gear both have very similar views on alot of cars....usually more appraising than EVO.
I've always been a pro-evo (yes the footy game as well) guy though.
How do you measure accuracy in a car review apart from the figures?
Think its a W-reg, usually parked off the high street near the bakery but today it was parked up by the Church.
Has definitely had some suspension mods and has aftermarket alloys.
Very tidy looking car.
Will flyer it tomo if i see it again!
Ive read the reviews as well. I've also driven the car. Refinement and chassis aside i still wasn't bowled over.
But hey, if we were all the same we'd have bought one by now...
Well it may be another angle on a recurring theme, but surely its gonna crop up more and more with yet more new hot hatches being put up against the 197.
I don't take pleasure in another Renaultsport stablemate gettin less than favourable reviews...im so used to reading about them trouncing...
Check out the defensive 197 lover!
Now come on down off the soapbox. Im pretty sure there aren't any 197 HATERS in here.
Hell im contstantly drooling over the on in my local Renault showroom.
Yes its chassis dynamics set it above the old shape Clio and yes its better built, and YES us poor and...
My thoughts exactly fellas.
Its all about evolution. As you rightly said, the 172 was at its pinnacle with the Cup and the 182 was the same with the Trophy.
Same goes for the Meggy. Im fairly sure they have reached the top of the tree with it now.
I just hope RenaultSport do the 197 justice...
The Mini came out on top. They didn't write off the 197...not by any stretch....it got 4 stars. The VXR apparently keeps up with it without any struggle though!
They say the chassis is by far the best, but it just lacks.
Too much weight and just underpowered...simple as that.
The Mini is the...
Just read the hot hatch group test in EVO with the new Corsa VXR v New Cooper v 197 v Ibiza Cupra.
Interesting reading. Makes you realise (yet again) just how good the good ol' Trophy really is and how big a void it has left since its demise....
As good as the 197 is it simply left the EVO...
Ahhh another of the good old Cup Vs FF threads....
To the OP...YOU FOOL!!! Surely you should know how the search facility works!?!
Now we have another inter Clio Pissing Contest on our hands!
Hehe.:D
Ahh well, heres my pennies worth....FF's are for big girls blouses and for those who claim...
