Yeah, there's a chance that it might s**t itself, but there's a chance that might happen with every £600 car. Just most of them don't have those kind of specs to roll around in, sidewayz!
If a dephaser was the issue, it'll come out in bits. lol.
My bet is it's nothing to do with the part, it was the work completed/fitting.
That said, i'd check what was broken on the old engine before i used any bits.
Whip the head off. My bet is valves have said hello to the pistons. Timing...
You can't 'disconnect' it i don't think. But i believe some people have either used two exhaust pulleys, or verniers in BIG spec builds.
On the most part (ie, if it's a road car in anyway) pointless - you'd lose more driveability than you gain in anything else. As you lose VVT iirc.
