Not to be confused with the Honda VTEC systems, which you can feel - as I understand it it changes to a 'wilder' cam at a given rpm and doesn't simply alter the phase of the cam as the Renault system. As I understand it anyway.
I wish I had a CTR engine in my Clio. lol.
Fair points Rich. For me, I want as much as I can for as little money. So the 172 was a no brainer for me. If it was pure performance ( and I'm not arguing that, on the whole, the Cup IS a faster car) your after the Cup was perfect and was untouchable brand new as far as bang per buck goes...
'Overly specced'?? What that supposed to mean?? They're too well specced?? Do me a favour!! LOL.
Oh and it' 89Kg, allegedly ;)
I've driven both back to back and the biggest difference was in the handling, not the straight line speed. The Cup does 'feel' more raw, but I think thats mostly...
The colour is Inferno. It was available as an option on the 182's I believe, and the 182 Cup also came in the colour.
That picture makes it look OK. In real life it looks more like a giant baked bean.
I would say the least popular colour for the mk2 172 would be flame red, but that's a...
I thought about a Cup until I realised people would see me as some kind of second class citizen for buying a cheapo version of an already cheap French car. ;)
Seriously though, for me, the 172 FF represented better value in terms of spec v's cost. Whereas for other people the Cup represented...
Neither do I. That's why I spent £300 on one of these. lol.

It's horses for courses. If I had no intentions of modding my car further I wouldn't have bothered with an IK. But I am, and feel that coupled with cams, inlet manifold...
I'm just chuffed that there is something resembling a tuning scene for the RS clios. I remember when I first came on here there was very little in terms of tuning products for the F4R. Now, and thanks in no small part to GDI and Angelworks Tech, there are tuning mods available to suit all...
Nice one Ben. So there are ways (and cams available?) that can improve the lower rev range and give the potential for higher peak power? Cool. Sounds like something of a science in itself. lol.
How do cams effect peak power? Do they increase it much? Or is the biggest effect of cams to alter the power delivery? Which is more beneficial?
Is it a trade off between power gains (very peaky power delivery) and a smoother power delivery with less power gain?
Thinking of getting some...
I fail to see what is so great about the standard airbox. It's crap black plastic that saturates with heat, it's got restricted cold air feed to reduce noise and one of the air feeds goes no further than most open/semi enclosed kits.
As i understand it ( well not strictly understand lol) the...
I pay £500 for my 172 with elephant... ah the joys of being 25. lol.
If I had a 1.2, I'd be looking at spending £500 + on a set of coilovers. The 1.2's are f**king slow, but they are great to drive and you can still carry a good bit of speed through the bends.
Engine mods, imho, are...
I've never looked tbh..... I went all out and bought an ITG Maxogen.
Might be worth having a word with John2modified to see if he sells them - he seems cheap enough for other stuff.
http://www.2modified.com/ is his website - It might be worth giving him a PM as he may do you a deal.
Never noticed tbh. Can't see how it could be detrimental to mpg unless your using too high a gear for the speed your doing.
Never had any near misses..... but I can see how they could come about - some people seem to think that switching it on means they can swith off - Not so!!
