Audi S2 verus my 16v - some figures

No it was defintely an S2 - it came before the RS2. The RS2 would have fully roasted me, as your figures indeed confirm. I can dig out the Autocar test if you like, and from memory the 0-60 is something like 4.6 secs - definitely NOT my territory!!

If its the new shape "boggo" WRX then thats quite possible - as long as its not a standing start contest. Ive raced a new-shape WRX before from 30mph plus and I was right with him all the way, except on roundabouts - where the 4WD grip again comes in handy. The old WRX and the new STI are...

164 bhp with those mods - crikey!! The whole job was just over £2k. Im not making any comments about the insurance. Lets just say that it would be a very, very keen assesor that would pay money to pull the engine apart.

    16v gearbox

I always take my car to a transmission specialist for all my jobs (just becuase they do all the stuff at the best price and I trust them). The guy there specialises in transmissions (obviously!) - he says never take a recon unit as theyre never as good and you cant tell how bad itll be until...

    Modifying and resale/trade...

If I had my money and time again, I wouldnt have bothered moding my old 1.2. Money down the drain come resale. But then you can benefit if, like me, you buy a car with work already done (to the engine, as it would be a sin to touch the body of a 16v/Williams!).

Hmmm...if you know what to look for, then beat the price down if its OK. The problem is if you only ever drive that 16v, then when you get into another in a years time and realise that the handling in yours is actually quite poo, youll wish that you had not gotten it. Try another for comparison.

    BENIFITS OF A VALVER

Find a Clio 16v/Williams and park your RT next to it - then try and tell us that you still want a body kit!! The 16v is just not like an RS Turbo, VTR/S or CTR, where you can just stick the bits on. I found that out when I had my 1.2! Come to a meet my friend and youll see hardly anyone...

Definitely not at the wheels!! Thats at the flywheel, as tested a year ago on an engine dyno when the engine was out of the car. I bought the car from a bloke who had the cambelt go on him and wrecked the internals of the engine as a result. he had the original cams re-profiled to his spec...

Limited slip diff - possible to fit to a Clio 16v

Ive just been thinking - surely if you could control the wheelspin on a car like a moded FWD car like the 16v then youd get better acceleration times. Like 0-60 an 1/4 miles?? Is that right - and if so, how much/how possible is it to fit is to a 16v?? Cheers

    Valver vs williams vs 172

RenWill - Willy is a fantastic car - and deserves its iconic and future classic status. But theres not *that* (these stars are great arent they Nick?!) much difference between the 16v and its special edition brother. At the end of the day it has 13bhp more, torque lower down and slightly...

    Valver vs williams vs 172

Youll find with a 16v that its expensive to get real power - since the only options are turbo/superchrger and/or nitrous, and head and cam work. From there youve also got boring out to higher capacity and playing with ECUs. But none of this is cheap. The 16v is a fapping quick car anyway...

    Opinions on Saxo’s please

Im so glad that Renault didnt make anything except the 16v and Williams with the arches and bonnet bulge. Can you imagine seeing a 1.2 special edition Clio with arches and bulge. Most of us here - and the rest of the cult following - probably wouldnt think so highly of the 16v/Willy if that...

Audi S2 verus my 16v - some figures

About six weeks ago I happened across an Audi S2 estate on the A198 near Edinburgh (not the Porsche developed RS2). In the 20 or so miles and half an hour to Edinburgh, I had probably the closest “race” of my time with my mod’ed 16v Clio. What the roads really tested was handling, flexibility...

    Top of 16v Dash Removal.....

The dash top is as easy as it looks to get off - just the three torx screws (25 size I think). There are no vent pipes to disconnect once under there, but there will be a mass of wires in about the middle of the dash that will need to be carefully oushed back into the chassis when you put the...

I remember when the duo first appeared - before the cheap insurance deals and 1.1s with the VTR/S bodykit. Basically, the VTR is the next XR2 and the VTS will be doomed to a future where no-one respects it or believes it can be fast. Thats a shame as the VTS and 106 GTi are one and the...

    im such a fool!!!!!!!!!

Nowadays the 5 Turbo boys seem to be more the enthusiast types - and are fairly clued up on what car youve got as a result. Id be surprised if he didnt have a few "select" mods, helping him to be a little quicker than a Willy on the straights. The standard GT Turbo was capable of 0-60 in...

What price for this Clio 16v

As I say, hes the second owner - picked it up at 60k miles in 1997. Full service history since day one. Would be a bragain for anyone who wasnt afraid of the miles, though I have to admit that I would be a little nervous myself as I do 10-15k per annum. Its not for sale yet as I say, but...
