Dont worry Craggy mate - Evo and practically everyone who knows anything about cars says Willys are still the best. Did you see the Williams versus 172, Curpra R, Golf GTi Mk1, Mini Cooper and 205 GTi??
It beat them all to a pulp - including on lap times!
Ive had to spend £3000 + since November on mine (thats without any moding). But if youre committed, youll have a very fine example at the end that will never let you down for driving fun - which is why most of us are here.
Well, Ive been in it plenty, but he prefers his Volvo 960 3.0 24v estate. He doesnt really like the Octavia RS as much as you cant get auto on it. He wanted the auto 1.8 T Octavia, but it costs more than the RS and has worse Co2 (which as we all know is important for company drivers).

Hi
You had a Cliosport sticker in the back...
I was the black 16v in front of you with the black wheels, all the way onto the M5. Do you work at that finance office thats tucked just off Melrose Place in Clifton??
Youll see mine and my mates 16vs (his is red with 17s) both parked in...

Will sadly only be finally confirmed whether the bottom/head are in good health when you take them to bits. But even if they are shot then you can get new bottom ends and heads for relatively little cost. Go for it!
Well, finally I came up against one tonight. I was getting ready for a close encounter, as people with Williams/16v Clios have posted about being beaten by them. To be honest, it wasnt actually as quick as I expected - especially off the mark. Definitely was a real one - I should know: my...

Induction kit and exhaust will make it sound better and feel faster - but it wont be any quicker. Id be surprised if a chip made much difference, and that anybody makes them for the 1.2 16v.
I used to have a 1.2 and swore at the time that I had more power from my mods - but in reality the...

The old WRX is in a totally different league to the 172/16v/Willy. But the new one is a lot heavier - and is about 2 secs slower than a 172 around Evos track of choice. In the real world, as Ive found out, the 4wd gives it amazing grip that a FWD car cant keep up with on say a roundabout. But...
164 bhp with those mods - crikey!!
The whole job was just over £2k. Im not making any comments about the insurance. Lets just say that it would be a very, very keen assesor that would pay money to pull the engine apart.
I always take my car to a transmission specialist for all my jobs (just becuase they do all the stuff at the best price and I trust them). The guy there specialises in transmissions (obviously!) - he says never take a recon unit as theyre never as good and you cant tell how bad itll be until...
If I had my money and time again, I wouldnt have bothered moding my old 1.2. Money down the drain come resale.
But then you can benefit if, like me, you buy a car with work already done (to the engine, as it would be a sin to touch the body of a 16v/Williams!).
Hmmm...if you know what to look for, then beat the price down if its OK. The problem is if you only ever drive that 16v, then when you get into another in a years time and realise that the handling in yours is actually quite poo, youll wish that you had not gotten it. Try another for comparison.
Find a Clio 16v/Williams and park your RT next to it - then try and tell us that you still want a body kit!! The 16v is just not like an RS Turbo, VTR/S or CTR, where you can just stick the bits on. I found that out when I had my 1.2!
Come to a meet my friend and youll see hardly anyone...
Definitely not at the wheels!! Thats at the flywheel, as tested a year ago on an engine dyno when the engine was out of the car.
I bought the car from a bloke who had the cambelt go on him and wrecked the internals of the engine as a result. he had the original cams re-profiled to his spec...
Ive just been thinking - surely if you could control the wheelspin on a car like a moded FWD car like the 16v then youd get better acceleration times. Like 0-60 an 1/4 miles??
Is that right - and if so, how much/how possible is it to fit is to a 16v??
Cheers
RenWill -
Willy is a fantastic car - and deserves its iconic and future classic status. But theres not *that* (these stars are great arent they Nick?!) much difference between the 16v and its special edition brother. At the end of the day it has 13bhp more, torque lower down and slightly...
