Every hour spent washing, is an hour I could be driving. My cars a clio, not a Ferrari, ergo washing isn't that important. I wash my car once/maybe twice a year.
I'd make sure they are ok before doing the springs. If there's an issue, and you're spending the money on springs and new dampers, might as well upgrade at the same time.
Personally, I'd wait for coilovers. I've done days on Eibach Sports, and on coilovers. Massive difference, hate to say it, but would probably of been more economical and fun to drive to of got coilovers rather than the wheels and 888's.
This has gone way off topic, whats the point in talking about mk1's, AFAIK Steve's isn't looking at mk1's. Talking mk2's, a cup or ph1 172 would be a better track car than a Trophy.
And that is why I would only buy off here. End of the day, sadly, anyone could forge history, but having chatted to Timmay (And seen his face, to paraphrase Alan "nice mouf") ended up buying his. At least when you buy off here you have some idea of what people are like.
The top monts are a bad design, they can knock when parking from new. There are washers available to fix it if its a problem for you. Re. pulling on the road markings, is that under power? I'm assuming that you've checked tyre pressures, running the same tyres across the axle, tyres have enough...
