Yea renault fault finding tells you to check for air in the fuel, but its a grey area as to how much is excessive. Back to basics really. clip check, injector leak off test, check fuel pressure when cranking ( 180 bar iirc ) check compressions etc
They always show air in the fuel lines. You could look at a good one and it would still have air in it. Have you had clip on it? More likely that there is a fault either with the fuel pressure sensor ( on the fuel rail) or the pressure regulator on the pump.
Clips a handy tool for these...
^^ Since ive changed to 15's with 205 tyres, it feels a lot better. But Gaz coileys and 16's with 195/45's was terrible. Still cant seem to find a balance either, set soft and the back end bottoms out over bumps really easy and set hard its twitchy as hell. Seem to get massve understeer too...
Aslong as the ride height is correct, theres not much a pro can set up. The problem is at the rear As said there not damping adjustable. So the problem is more likely tyre pressures, bold tyres etc. Make sure its got sensible camber on the front and that its had wheel alignment.
First thing would be to check tyre pressures, 31psi front and 29psi rear iirc. Does sound like the rear tyre pressurres are too low, and the tyre moves around on the rim and makes handling s**t. Failing that have you played with the damper settings on the rear?? Set too hard or too soft and...
Well the kit with tensioner, belt and idler is about £110. Depending on where you take it depends on the labour rate. But in reality at least an hours labour.
I wouldnt take it anywhere thats not familiar with the 172 belt set up. Seen many threads on here with bad timing issues because a, backstreet garages aint got the tools and b, they wouldnt know how to set em up anyway.
Anywhere chargein 300 for a cambelt and 50 for an aux belt wont be using...
