Nah bet all it'l need is a few valves and a new belt. 1.4's are easy enough to work on so id repair it, all the parts from a motor factor probably wouldnt top £100

^^ Ahh yes thats right the drivers side comes off on its own.. the passenger side has the wipers going through it.

Its under the scuttle panel on the drivers side iirc.. wipers and scuttle off.. there youl find the back of the heater box.

Yes i have done one before..You could do it with the box still bolted to the engine... Remove the ring of torx bolts, and the selector shaft pin iirc.. but if u gonna do it you might aswell take the box out and do it on a bench, That way you can do a proper job. The proper stuff for the job is...

TBH unless the gearbox oil was pissing out i wouldnt bother.. they always leak out the selector shaft anyway. Id just change the gearbox oil, clean the oil off the box and keep an eye on it. But thats upta you. Il be at a meet sometime soon. Had lots on with the clio and its an embarresment at...

Yea i know's matty! sound youth CAF?? dunno what it stands for. But it isnt cold air feed before people start. Renault sell it, it's like silicon sealer and it smells funny, but its good for sealing water pumps, boxes etc. If your gonna do it properly id take the box out to seal.

Piece of piss spliting the box to re-seal.. getting the box out thats the pain in the arse. Renault CAF is good for sealing em up..

^^ True that. All the pulleys are free floating, so u cant change the timing by teeth really. The timings either right or wrong.

Definaletly will have valve damage, your best bet is to get a second hand engine, put a new belt, clutch etc in that while its out and drop it in.

Spent lots of cash and it looks worse than standard... the front bumper and F+F spoiler is definately barry'd

I get this at around 4 - 5 k when booting it... its knocks a few times, had all new mounts tho.

Tippex is ok on some cam belts, but modern engines need to be pinned up and locked to make sure timing is bang on.

Put pin in to lock crank. remove old belt. top cam tool in, with big D's to the top. New belt on. Tension belt with crank pulley off and top pulleys loose. Turn belt over one revolution. Tighten cam pulleys. tighten bottom pulley.

No dont think so, they should use the same timing slots as standard surely?? Its just the profile thats different.

Did u re-check the timing after tensioning the belt and turning the belt while the pulleys were free floating??

I am still on the case trying to get a copy of that tech note to post on here. I did do a reprogramme on a 197 for this fault when i worked at renault, but as said before, didnt really do much. Spose its just the price you pay. As for tech note info, renault dealers arent supposed to give it out.
