don't ditch just yet. you've spent alot of time on this car and it shows. I'd get some replacement parts and hang in there until you can insure something you really really want.

they are the least of your worries. gearbox will just munch itself when shown any kind of usefull power.
4WD is an EMMENSE amount of effort. Cutting welding and custom engineering will all add up and the gains you make are questonable unless the car is pure 1/4mile dragslag

is that clip on properly. Personally I'd remove the shaft and have a go at a good service myself and see if you loose anymore Gbox oil. or is the boot split?
Your number 1 priority is to top up your Gb oil, you don't want to loose that.
New shafts can be had from breakers for between £40 and £90
