The car that spun in front of you going down the Avenue looked close to the barrier, did he just miss it?

It's the battery!
The alarm will go off as soon as you connect the battery, don't worry about that. You then need to shut the bonnet as it has the alarm sensor which thinks the bonnet is open.
When you've shut the bonnet, lock then unlock the car and it should be sorted.
There's quite a few links to various parts of the workshop manual on here.
Would need to search a bit though.

Reverse the car on to them and job done. They've helped me loads of times.
Can be found cheaper on eBay i think.
