It's definitely one piece on mine - once it was off I put the top hat in a vice and tried to take the nut off - no luck. It's all moulded as one
I can take a pic if you like
SERIOUS CAUTION here mate
When I took my top mounts off the nut is actually part of the top part of the top mount! (top hat as you're calling it)
Honestly - they are one and the same part - it was well confusing as I kept thinking it wasn't coming off
I whacked a buzz gun on them and they came...
Ahhh sorry assumed the opposite - as compbrake stopped selling them about the same time I saw the k-tec ones advertised
AFAIK compbrake don't manufacture the clio top mounts any more
There top mounts are only £110 without the strut brace -> http://www.pure-motorsport.co.uk/details.php?itemid=143
The replacement bearings are £25 each -> http://www.pure-motorsport.co.uk/details.php?itemid=145
I can't really see it ever being cost effective to mill your own top mounts
Also...
It's not worth it really - you can buy the bearings from pure motorsport for about £20 lol
By the time you've lathed some new ones you might as well just buy the k-tec ones :(
They are a horrid design
They don't fit well in the hole and there's nothing to hold them in place except a silly screw-on ring
That rattles loose and the damn things move about - meaning a crap drive
There's a reason comp-brake discontinued them and redesigned them as above with the bolts...
Yeah the first gen comp brake ones are utter shite - I'd rather have standard
The second gen ones are fine - and are identical to K-Tec
I believe K-Tec just bought the rights to them - powder coated them and stook a K-Tec logo on them
The rubber lets the shock absorbers move slightly from side to side = softer turn in. The solid mounts dont = faster turn in
The rubber will provide some noise reduction because it'll buffer the spring/shock movement from the car - but "crashy" feelings are when you hit a bump or pot hole in...
10th & 11th is good with me - but the clio will be mid-way through having the cage welded in and the interior resprayed
I'll pop over in the 306 to say hi though :)
Oh sorry - I missed that
I've had a run in in the past with the "extremebhp" lot - cracks me up lol
Edit: just found the guys thread - he actually seems ok now people have explained to him that he's been conned and ripped off
Probably should edit the ebay ad though LOL
It reminds me of the...

Ermmmmm 220bhp at the fly from just a remap, filter and exhaust??
Impressive!!!
I understand that - but I wouldn't have thought they'd suddenly make the car feel "crashy"
I fitted billsteins and then a month later solid mounts. Made no difference to the feeling - just turns in quicker
If it's glowing red then the engine is running very lean. Lean = very hot
I would be VERY cautious running it as it will crack a piston if it hasn't already
Most likely cause is the throttle body or a vacuum hose has come off - it's getting waaaay too much air.
If it's none of those then it...
Got it sorted last night
Re-programmed the airbag ecu so it's happy having no airbags now LOL!
No lights on the dash
I tidied all the loose crappy renault alarm wiring up - taped it all to the main loom. Tidied all the stereo wiring up out the way
Got to go pick up a new dashboard on saturday...
Dan - yeah it is
Right - here's what I've found out
Remove airbag ecu = Fault code on dash
Remove either of the side impact sensors = Fault code on dash after 2 seconds
So I can't remove either of these 3 things
However - all airbags are removed, all seat belts - and using the RSTuner I've...
I need to rebump this
All my airbags are binned now - so are the side impact sensors and all the seatbelts
It's a fully stripped track car
I've tried removing the airbag ecu - but I'm stuck with a light on the dash.
I found a guide on here saying to remove pin 7 from the plug - but that was a...
The number plate light on mine didn't work - popped it out of the bumper and the connecter was all corroded
I think they tend to get hit by spray from wet roads
Only cost about £8 for a brand new one with a bulb in
The pride of lincoln meet was s**te
Me and ash turned up and after 35minutes got bored and left - even the organiser didn't turn up. A PM the day before might have helped ;)
But FFS get a PROPER lincolnshire meet up - there's at least 4 or 5 clio's I see daily. Not driving to notts just to go...
Hrmm there's a point - I removed the steering wheel airbag and the standard seat belts ages ago and I didn't use resistors
The RS Tuner I've got allows you to tell the ecu to ignore certain air bag error messages
Maybe it'll work for the dashboard one too!
I just got the monster beats for my birthday
The sound quality is mind blowingly good - makes my old sennheisers sound like s**t
The controls work flawlessly with my iPhone 4 and they are a great price
Listen to this man!!!!
I am a die hard canon fan - and I agree with Brazo - canon lenses are cheaper and better. Hell you could buy a 50mm f1.8 for £80 brand new!!
BUT the new sony sensor that they've fitted to the 5100 is a whole new level of technology. It has virtually no noise at any ISO...
