PH1's are the only MK2 Clio I would really want to own. The PH2's down really do it for me, hence why I bought the PH1 last time. That said you can't look past a 182 for their current price for a cheap to run, economical car that has a good spec and is pretty comfortable whilst being hugely fun...
Looks a very tidy example of a ph1 that mate, love it.
Financially its a good swap, just as quick straight line, corners its arguably more fun and in standard form still a comfortable every day. Best bit is its paid for in about 8 months finance on a 200.
Keep it. I sold my 172 because uni was imminent and then realised I could afford it and should actually have kept it. I bought an MX5 within 2 months and I love it but it is a bit impractical.
I probably couldn't deal with a shitbox diesel as my only car. I need a fun car.
The MK3's rev even higher than the 1*2's on the motorway. Even the 6th gear is shorter than 5th in the MK2. I found my 172 ok revs wise on a cruise. I think 80 was about 3500rpm. Much better than the 4000rpm in my mx5 anyway.
Well it sure beats the usual mods of Turini's, cup spoiler and silver visions that's for sure.
Got to be a troll though, who would want their car smelling like a sandwhich shop. Also; where would you store butter etc properly.
How stupid do you have to be to steal a two seater car when there are three of you? One of them must have had to sit on the others knee. Hardly discreet is it.
Mate of mine has just got an E46 320D. Gone for an auto box on his though. I was massively impressed with the comfort and build quality when he took me out in it.
The E46 is definitely on my to own list. Great cars.
I had the same choice and went for the ph1.
Looks nicer, more of an old school aggressive luck rather than the more bland ph2. Driving wise I've only driven ph1's so can't comment.
More chance of finding a decent ph2 though as they're newer and more were made, although you could argue ph1 is...
Bad luck that mate, but unless you have driven more than one how are you to know if its down on power when you buy it. I've driven 3 different RS Clio's, all silver ph1's ironically and they've all felt pretty much the same pace. That said two were short test drives and the other I owned. I...
I know a lad who had a ph1 on 117K on the original belt and that car got completely abused. Others will snap after 50k miles. Its luck of the draw I guess.
Mileage isn't really relevant. I'd rather a 100k car with FSH inc belts etc than a 20,000 mile car thats 7 years old and only had two services with no belts.
You do a lot of miles don't you Dave? Is the idea to run it into the ground as such? With your 30k+ iirc miles a year in two years it will be very hard to shift. with 150K+ on it.
Like it. Will look a lot better on some different wheels though, not a fan of the chunky standard ones.
I never got on with the TR1's I had on my 172, I found there was far too little wet/damp grip for my liking. Good dry grip though so fingers crossed your track day will be dry.
