It will most likely be either the idle control valve, or the throttle body sticking, both a common problem - i would most likely say ICV as you say the revs jump
Well number 2 is easy, if the aux belt stops turning then it's either a very old best and it's stretched, or the tensioners not right, you want to get that looked at asap, as if it catches or snaps it could throw the aux belt off , and they have a nasty habit of wrapping around the cambelt...

May well have mate, or to be honest it might just drive a bit better than your old one - Iv had many 1*2's and driven hundreds, and no one has driven the same lol
It could be the engine has moved slightly enough to not allow you to push it in gear enough to take drive although it feels like it is in gear.
It could well be the top mount if you didnt do it up tight enough?
Also could have knocked the linkage but doubtfull if you say you have driven it a...
Agree with Danny, there are 2 top mounts, one under the battery tray, but easier to check the other one, which is on the drivers side by the top inner wing, do some searches on hear about engine mounts and you will see what to do et

The VVT is not the kick. The VVT comes in at about 1650rpm and switches back about 6500rpm from memory, the '5k kick' is the engine getting to VE, or coming 'on cam' in old speak. VVT has nothing to do with that kick.

Give the middle of the wheel a whack with a hammer a few times to try to break the seal, then Grab the top of the wheel with one hand, the bottom in the other - don't pull with both hands together, heave ho pulling top then bottm and really give it some stick -it will come off
