With the washer pump, does it make a noise when the stalk is operated? If so take off the washer pipe at the pump and operate, if water comes out then the pump is ok and you've got a blockage in the pipe. If the washer pump doesn't make a noise, you need to get a multimeter and read the voltage...

But the fluid will only be pushed back, it won't be mixed in with the 'fresh' brake fluid further up the system.

No need to crack off the bleed nipple, never seen anyone do that for replacing discs and pads. Doing that just causes more work as you will have to bleed the brakes.

I said to get them set properly i.e. with the correct beam cut off, correct height using a beam tester.
