Is yours a ph1 or ph2? Icant see the pics at the mo.
It should spring back yes
As Chip has said mate, dont reply on the knock sensor - imo i have always got better mpg on higer octane fuels, so i would always use the best availablle :)
Very nice! Back in the late 90's I had 4 mk2's, quickest was a white SRi with a 2.0 Cavalier SRi 130 engine, which had a re-worked head and a larger cam - was great fun!
I will say, while for daily driving the 1*2's have enough torque to pootle along with, the 150odd lb ft they do have is...
The thing you have to remember the average 172/182 will weigh around 1000kg's and have say 165-170bhp. Take 80odd kg's off that, add another 10bhp and (just as importantly) a higher rev limit, then it is perfectly possible. :)
Gearing is pretty good on the 172's, and on the mk1's even better...
Not had my new 172 on track yet, but mine is shimmed -2 at the back and the previous owner seemed to enjoy it :)
But as you say it is a personal preference, id give it a go, if you don't like it then change :)
hmmm, quite odd there mate!
have you a specialist near you? Just afraid Renault may charge you a lot for diagnosis work.
When was the cambelt last done? Timing may be out
OK, my Brother really does need to sell this - he has found the flat he wants to buy and the seller wants a quick sale, so he desperately needs the money for a deposit, so if anyone needs a pick up like this, I can't tell you how good condition this is in - and he is open to ANY offers, so if...
does it drive ok or is it sluggish?
it wont be leads/plugs as 99% of the time those would cause as issue al any revs, not just on idle
I would still say a new lambda would not do any harm at all, both lambdas could be up the creek.
if it smells strongly of fuel then it is over...
For the sake of an extra 50 quid, id get the head checked, be a right bummer if you out it back together and it didn't run due to the head being fooked - another £35 on another gasket set and then more on a head matey
How often do you see it out of interest Danny?
tis a shame, probably worth going for a 2nd hand engine if you can find a known working one, unless you can carry out the repair work yourself
Flol took the words right out of my mouth mate!
mines a pig from cold for a few minutes, and is timed quite agressively, but on the plus side being really childish it sounds bloody awesome on idle :D
On my local RR it made 176bhp/140lb ft of torque, but that reads about 7bhp more than RS Tunings rollers, which are known for being ego busters, so id guestimate somewhere around the 170bhp mark.
id like to think it should be over a genuine 175bhp once mapped properly
