Its suprisingly not understeery - my old Vr was, and that was on coilovers, but this one seems to loose the rear end long before the front goes :D
Knowz it ;)
Couldn't pass this one up! Was offered it by a friend, VERY cheap so had to say yes.
Needs some tidying, but should be good fun to mess about with
Collected today, basic spec is:
1997 2.8 Golf VR6
122k
Uprated cams (Unkown make atm)
Tubular manifold
Scorpion exhaust
Decat
Induction kit...
Due to it being diesel, im guessing (as per most) it is going to be a fooking heavy lump - I wouldn't like to see what a Clio would drive like with even more weight over the front
To be fair, cams done correctly are a good modification - the Schricks I have were fitted along with the head coming off and new valves for the very reason you have stated, but to be fair cams can still give a good increase over a standard engine.
The heads always need cleaning on the inlet...
When I went to the Red Bull Speed Jam a few weeks ago, I got a free booklet that had in all about what Red Bull had been up to, and this was in it - they also took the car to Oz (iirc) and ran it up and down a great big beach there.
Its all about promoting F1 (and getting them a big PR boost in...
Re: Cambelt issue.. new thread
it is spinning over very fast as it will have no compression due to the valves being bent by hitting pistons. (As Paul has said) With the price of used engines, the cheapest way to fix is a new used engine.
Im not even going to give a responce to that ;)Yeah, stripped would help - but it's natural to try these things when we are young (i openly admit trying to do it with a stop watch after i passed my test) and i was told the truth on these things, as most of us are trying to do here for him lol
Jlister, top speed, thats fine - but please discount your 0-60 - a stopwatch is NOT anywhere near accurate enough to time with - it will not be milliseconds - the variable between you clicking when you start, the inaccuarcy of your speedo, the time when you click the stopwatch at 60 - hell it...
Averaged 6.7 secs using racelogic in my black one before the itb's. After is was an average of 5.7 secs - with full interior. Though to the OP, what timing equipment did you use to time your 8.0? As thats very quick for a 1.6 - please don't tell me you used a stopwatch
Looks stunning Rob - silly question but how different is it than the Elise? Both being very low, very stiff and mid engined?
Is it like a bigger, slightly heavier more powerful version?
Normally lack of oil starves big end bearings/crank of oil - scored crank + knackered bearings, but it could be more damage - all depends on the noise, where it's coming from etc - I wouldn't run it any more to listen mind
Hmm, maybe dephaser getting a little noisey mate? The skittish could be a number of things - knackered shocks/top mounts/wishbone bushes/wheel alignment/tyres - whats been changed/uprated mate?
Great car, and a great price - he was selling it cheap imo
I didnt realise you bought nicks old Clio mate!
First time I saw that when Nick bought it round my house, it had all the breather pipes connected up wrong - it had the inlet mani breather connected to the intake pipe (where the icv pipe should be) plus a few other bits - Nick was wondering why...
The idea is good - shrowding the filter is what you want.
Unfortunately i do think it will mostly be shovelling in hot air - even when at speed, but fair play for trying something different, but ultimately i think it will be loosing you power, but i bet it does sound pretty awesome
