Well I've just got the 182 back, and frankly, its hard to believe based on that DCI I had that the 197 could be anything like the 182.
On the positive side, I think the 197 will be better built than the 182.
The 6 speed box will probably go some way to overcome its weight, in combination...
I asked the dealer today when i was picking up the 182 after some warranty work and they have it down as not an import, as they said imports usually only have 2 year warrantys instead of 3.
So I guess that answers my question. Seems strange how it doesnt have locking nuts though.
Car has just come back from Reno.... and i think its fixed, but i guess i wont know for sure until i get a windy day (very still today), it was the windscreen, and it wasnt sealed properly, so they had to reseal it. Just thought i would update this thread in case anyone is having similar problems...
As title really.... I'd never really given this much thought really, as I had bought it from a dealer. However, when I went to have a test drive of something else the guy wanted to talk figures before he would let me out in it. He actually asked me if it was an import... I said I didnt think so...
Theres no such car as an R36.
My mates got a chipped Golf 1.8T. Its quite fast, but I wouldnt really say it was any faster than mine TBH, and its definitely a lot duller.
So how do you know it doesnt look as good if you've never actually seen one? :S
Horses for courses, I dont usually like the anthracite wheels unless they are on a black car, and stealth is the way to go... and none of the 182's are as stealthy as a titanium FF, great for the surprise factor...
I didnt have the option, but as said, I'd be surprised if they make much difference anyway... i reckon some eibachs would be better than either cup or non cup suspension.
Anyway, i think silver wheels look right on a silver car. I've seen titanium 182's with cup packs and the wheels just look...
Hi mate :)
Drove it home from work not so long ago, and some of the roads are open country type roads, and this is where you can really appreciate the difference of the 182 over one of the lesser diesel models. Where the diesel did feel quite nippy in town, it feels completely breathless and...
My 182 is now at Reno and today I got use of a mk3 diesel, pretty much poverty spec to tell you the truth, so i dont know if its a 65 bhp model or the 80 bhp model, but I'd imagine its probably the former.
Anyway I just thought I'd give a few basic thoughts on the car in comparison - although...
Big deal... straight line speed, so what?
Yes the ST is faster, but not by much. I dont care what anyone says, no ST will ever lose me on a country road.
The ST is a big, refined grand tourer of a car. Its not a hot hatch. It uses an engine thats in a volvo, unlike the clio which has a...
I think i agree with some of the points he makes. That is, if you buy one for the sole intent to go as fast as possible for the least money, then really, its not a very good car to do this, as there are plenty of other better options; For example, for the price of a nearly new 182, you could...
I agree with what you are saying that *ultimately* the car will be faster by hanging on, because despite the power starting to tail off, by changing up there is less torque at the wheels anyway because you are in a higher gear ratio.
A lot of people when i drove the DERV skoda were convinced...
Good post Tom, interesting to read.
I'm generally with you on changing up early, especially once you get out of second there is little to be gained by going much past 6500 rpm IMO, and the only reason to rev it hard in the lesser gears is so it drops into the 5000 + rev range in the next gear...
I've always been reading that driving the Clio HARD all of the time somehow gives it more power.
But why? How? What proof is there?
By my reckoning I should be on my way to a quick'un because its rare that I dont give it some pasty, but as of now (11k miles) I dont really think I can say it...
Aye but as far as i remember the williams is actually a lot closer than the VTS is to the 182....
I guess up to a point there probably isnt that much in it... 0-60 for example, around 6.5s for the 182 and 7.5s for the Saxo, however, a second isnt a long time, and any error could squander that...
Sorry but I just dont buy this business of a VTS as standard being as fast as a 182. One tried it on with me several months ago and I was all over him, and it was definitely trying.
0-100 is 17s on the Clio and 22s on the 106/Saxo. Thats FIVE seconds. That is a fair difference.
So if you mod...
The fact its continually bested in road tests by the Golf GTI, Astra VXR and Focus ST surely means with the Megane, renault has not produced a class leading car.
I suspect the 197 will become class leading anyway, even if its not better than the 182, simply because in its class, there is no...
Thats what i thought as well. To me it definitely seemed to sound like it was coming from the dash, but alas, sound can be deceiving. Give it a try... I would be really interested to know if it helps you as well as this has been driving me up the wall and puts a dampener on a car that I...
I dont like it either. It just looks wrong. I almost did like it when i first seen the concept but somehow its not quite ended up looking like it did in the concept.
Also its heavier, and after parking my 182 next to a mk3 clio the other day, its sure to have the ride height of an MPV - no...
Sorry to drag this up... sounds like the same problem as I have...

It seems to coming from the interior light - if I apply firm pressure to the unit with my hand, the noise stops. Just need a way to make it permanent...
Every time I get to a particular speed, I get a squealing sound filling the cars cabin, and it is dependant on wind speed... sometimes you can hear it at 70 mph, other times its 100 mph. Once it starts, its more or less constant until you slow down. The higher wind speeds the car is travelling...
