The photographer who grabbed these got it pretty much perfect! I would have had shots of blue skies only I think.

Oops. Out of my depth much....
I managed to pick up over 3Ks worth of kit for just over 1K. The whole kit has only been used twice and came with a power pack, backdrops with stands, wall mounts, light meter and instruction DVDs (will be very useful).
I have a lot to play with and learn over...
LOL. I was also going to wing it but as this set comes with one, I guess I'll use it. The guy has accepted my offer so I'll be heading to the other side of holland to pick up my new studio this week. Looking forward to having a play!!
I've found an amazing set with Elinchrom fx400s x3 + battery pack, light meter, back drops etc. It is at a bargain price for what it is.
Do you guys use a light meter or just a bit of trial and error with the histogram?
I've put a cheeky offer on it and will see what comes back.
Did you use the lens pen on the sensor?
Jessops or most other camera shops should be able to offer a cleaning service. You could always post an SOS on talkphotography and see if somebody local with experience can help you out.
This image shows the different sensors.
The 5D & 1DS both have 35mm "Full Frame" sensors. The 1D has APS-H and the XXXD/XXD range have APS-C. The APS-C sensor has not changed size since its introduction in the 10D/300D and the D60 before that AFAIK.
It is a new sensor and has more pixels on it, but it remains the same size. The only cameras with bigger sensors from the entire Canon range are the 5D (I,II), 1D (I,II,III,IV) & 1Ds (I,II,III).
The sensor is the same size in the 400D & 550D, the pixels are just denser.
The 550D only seems to be worth the extra over the 500D for a few extra controls in the video and slightly better high ISO performance. I'd be temped to make the saving and stick with a 500D and use the savings on an...
50D has:
Better LCD (Higher resolution)
Focus correction (many lenses have front or back focus issues, the camera can be adjusted to correct this per lens)
Aside from that, and a few extra pixels, there is not a world of difference between the two.
Probably a good idea. It is over 10 years since I used proper lights so I could do with a refresher really.
Planetx, I look forward to seeing your shots!!
The portability side of it is more than a nice to have than an essential. I have a speedlight and cheap wireless triggers too.
I just fancied trying something a bit different, and spending 5-600 for a while is okay, as I can sell it all off again if I get bored. I have also been asked to do...
I am thinking of buying some studio flashes to have a play with but know very little about them. I know there are a couple of people on here who do studio work and was hoping for some advice.
I'd be buying second hand kit as the market is fairly good here and you can buy stuff and sell it...
LOL, yep, probably best not to put that on the internets if you don't want a visit from the local constabulary.
You could upload it to somewhere like rapidshare in a password protected .zip file. Files on there are only accessible if you know the link, and being password protected should give...
Shutter problems with error 99. Especially if you have black bits over the images. I had it on my old 40D after less than 1000 shots. A trip to Canon should sort it.
Can you not upload it to Youtube and let people watch it there? That way you keep the HD and quality.
You will really struggle to keep HD and still make a file small enough to email if it is more than a couple of seconds long.
Programs that may do it are: Handbrake, Format Factory or Super...
Ah.. misread that. Nick is right, there is no way to share multiple images from Flickr. Even sharing single images is a pain the arse now that they have changed the interface.
I just use my own webspace if I need to share a lot of pictures, it doesn't cost much and makes life much easier if...
Don't get a cheap card off ebay unless they are coming from a very reputable shop as there are loads of knock offs which are not what they say on the label. Memory is fairly cheap anyway, and I'd rather pay an extra £20 and have some extra peace of mind.
