I'd work out which UK model you want, do a quick check online to find the code and the do it yourself.
I'd be tempted to go for the 500D with kit lens and a 50mm f1.8 on the side, rather than just the 550D with kit lens. Unless you are really into video, I don't think that the other features will really help your images that much.

I'll be happy with my 5DII for a while though. It even beats the 1DIV in terms of image quality up to about 3200 ISO. The 1DIV gets perfectly usable images up to 12800 with minimal in camera noise reduction...

Absolutely. They do exactly the same.
The hoods have also saved the glass on my lenses from a knock a couple of times so they offer added protection too.
Can you browse through the files with a windows explorer folder? Then you can just copy them over.
I vaguely remeber having a similar problem with my old 40D but can't remeber how I fixed it. Can you try using Zoombrowser to copy the photos instead of camera window?

It depends on whether you are fussed about the colour rendition or not. Most of the cheap LCDs are TN panels which do not have a full colour depth as they only offer 6 bits per RGB channel so you will never get the 16.7 million colours from a 24bit true colour panel. The colours also change as...
