Some say ;) you should always do it that way (slackening the cam pulleys) to correctly tension the belt.
In principle I can see their point, no 2 belts will have exactly the same properties. In practise you probably won't see any significant difference in the belts so you'll be fine - and if...
My 172 cup (Oct 02) didn't have an RS manifold and the lower inlet manifold was nowhere near matched to the head, I'd say it was 2mm smaller all round.
Changing the oil is easy and will save you a bit of cash. But you won't get a stamp in your service book, which could affect your re-sale value.
Pros and cons it's up to you...
Have you asked him if he's worked on these before? All the pulleys are floating and the valve timing is only held in place by how tight the bolts are.
You can check if it has slipped by locking the crank to TDC and seeing if the cam locking slots are in the correct alignment too.
Have a read...
With an super charger you'd expect him to pull away from you at mid-range revs. With the clio you have to keep it over 4.5k rpm because that's where the power is. Turboed and super charged cars have good low down torque.
That looks like a bolt out of the top of the suspended engine mounting (at the accessories end of the engine next to the cam cover). There is a small gap there I think which is normal. But you need to put up a pic.
Ph1 and Ph2 172 have the same top half (plenum) but the the ph2 has fly by wire throttle body and ph1 has cable. The 182 has the same fly by wire throttle body as ph2 172 but different breather setup on the plenum. AFAIK!
I've switched to a 182 FF for my daily driver. Keeping the cup for track etc. I did 105k in the cup.
Initially I thought I wasn't going to like the 182 FF as it was a bit quiet and refined but now I like it. Although auto wipers are crap, cup way is much better! But I do still have the cup for...
What car?
Aux belt has to come off for the cam belt, so may as well change it while you are there, as it's normally due same time as the cambelt anyway.
Que crash pic
Just kidding that was October.
I've done about 150 miles, but mostly in snow and I couldn't get up to any real speed today to see what they were like.
The car (182) had 4 PE2s. I got 2 F1s today. Had the F1s put on the back and the PE2s that were on the back moved to the front.
Now the handling at speed is terrible. You make a small turn at motorway speed and the car does a big wobble, difficult to explain.
I tried putting the F1s on the...
Depends how faulty. Once for it did for me, but the car was obviously sick. The next time it just failed the MOT and the computer said the lambda was faulty.
Just about to fit some second hand cams to my 172, I have a few questions about the procedure. I've got the Renault tech note, so most of it is clear.
What do people use to seal the cam cover, the technote refers to "loctite 518" WTF is that? And how do people put it on - roller?
Any where...
Do you have climate control?
There is a fan in the light that pulls air over the temp sensor for the CC computer. I've heard you can try oiling it or something but haven't tried it on mine yet.
I think someone did a guide.
Wait you've got a cup? If it doesn't have air con it's dead easy and both those links I posted are for the air con cars.
It is tensioned by the alternator. You don't need a guide.
