With the rubbish resale values of 172's being actually less than book price, then maybe at least you'll get a reasonable pay out if they go off the book.
When I'm at my parents in Manchester, I sleep with the keys in my room upstairs and I have a machete under my bed. With any luck they'll...
I have an '03 172 which I bought 2nd hand. It has clear side repeaters and I'd always assumed this was standard for the colour (as on the black ones). I saw a pic in the media forum of a red 172 with orange repeaters and was confused. So I've has a look on autotrader and there's a real mix...
I've had my flame red ph 2 172 for about 20 months. in that time I've only seen about 4 other red ph 2's and another 2 or 3 ph 1's. This weekend was the first time I've ever been in the same car park as another red ph2. It was such a rare occasion that I thought a mate had taken my keys and...
After I made that post I had a look at them on the net. $200 for a PC and changeable heads. (~£110 before you buy the polishes) I just don't think I'd want to spend that much unless I KNEW I was gonna have a finish like when it came out of the showroom. I could fook up my paint or just not do...
Thanks guys. I'm still waiting for a dry day but it looks like i'll end up getting some scratch X. I imagine after about 30 mins and my arm feels like it's gonna drop off, I'll be dreaming of a PC. :(
I had tinted windows on my last car but it was silver. My 172 is flame red and I don't know if it'll look as good. If anyone has any pics of a clio in flame red, please post them to help me decide, thanks.
Good idea, as always though, if you can take someone with a good mechanical knowledge. Get there early so you'll have plenty of time for viewing, you don't want to miss something, see what appears like a nice car going through for pennies, buy it on impulse and come home with a dog.
I thought this was the case also. TBH I think if this guy is trying to sell a car that isn't fit to be on the road, it may be worth informing the police as it's a very serious matter if some has a crash in it and it just crumbles at the weak points.
I have a tube of rubbing compound in my stash of products, would this be any good for swirl removal over the entire car surface or is it worth forking out for scratch X?
The front side windows have to let 70% of light through.
The windscreen has to let 75% of light through.
No restriction on the rear or rear-side as there are vans with metal backs.

You'd be able to get a tidy punto around s-reg with low mileage for £1500. Ford Ka's are dirt cheap. For something REALLY cheap and reliable go for a ford escort. There's so many of all of these cars around you'll be able to get one in tidy condition with full service history.
If you...
My last car was modified and elephant was by far the cheapest insurer for it with all the mods declared. They have a max of six mods I think. You have to phone if you have more but I'd imagine this is when it gets expensive.
My 172 is standard but I've stayed with them as they're the...
Thanks guys, I'll give it a miss then. I'm 24 and the website they knock a tenner off if you're under 25. It's not that expensive but I mainly wanted to reduce my insurance. I'm already a smooth driver and I'd also be safe too if I drove slowly. I accept the fact I'm more likely to crash cos...
I'd say that journey was less than 260 miles anyway. I live in Trafford and when I had a 1.6 16v megane I did a weekly commute to wolves which was 85-90 miles and cost about £16 return.
172's don't seem to suffer fault's that need immediate attention as you're left stranded. But they DO seem to have various things break a lot that means you can finish your journey but have to visit renault for repairs in week(s) timescale.
Have people got the hidden balancing weights fitted to their 172 alloys ok? Kwik-fit ended up fitting exterior ones as they thought that was the problem on mine. It did work though.
I'll do anything to lower my car insurance premium (apart from buy a 1.2). Does anyone know if passing the test with the IAM (institute of advanced motorists) ever reduces your insurance? I know a lot of places do pass plus, but only to make up for being in the first year of driving. Whenever...
I had considered getting white alloys for my flame red 172 after seeing white ones on a red citroen C2. I decided against it but I now know I made the right choice.
He didn't necessarily say it'd be his testicle, he could have someone else's in a plastic bag and lose it. He could be a bollock surgeon or something :D
So is polish an abrasive? Is it like a milder version of scratch x or rubbing compund? I've been using super resin polish thinking that it was pretty much the same thing as wax! *gulp* I've still got swirls though so it's not like I'm down to the metal yet :(
I've had this in the past. Got 4 new tyres fitted by kwik-fit and then got bad vibration through the steering wheel on the motorway. Took them 2 more attempts to get it balanced right, but third time lucky and it was sorted. Watch the guy balance it to make sure he's doing it right!
