I currently own, but its not fitted at the mo, a http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=245712 Vibe active subwoofer. Its a great, deep, loud sub but its just too big for what i need/want.
Im going to have to get (at least) two sets of golf clubs in my boot at some...
Dont know on those two units, but I plumbed for the Focal Polyglass units simply because Focal have a very reliable and superb reputation for making some of the best speakers in the world.
Its done, speakers/amp ordered:
Focal Polyglass 130V2 Components.
Alpine MRP F240 4x40w RMS.
Decided on the 4 channel amp to give me flexibility to upgrade the rear speakers if/when I need to, but ill try running with just components at the front / sub in boot in the meantime.
My 182 was sluggish until about 3000 miles. Also, it needs proper warming up to get the best from it - about 15 minutes of driving to get the oil up to temp.
Righty then John, amp it is.
I was thinking 4 channel may be better in the long run so that ive got the option of having rears down the line?
I was thinking the same - great components up front and the Vibe 12" sub in the boot. It seems to be the most recommended setup in the Clio, but id...
Its an additional outlay that I dont want to spend cash on unless its absolutely necessary.
Other than more juice at high volume to the speakers I really dont see the point.
What sort of amp would you recommend? I thought that http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product.asp?product=20155this...
Brum,
Ive used that sorbothane (its not foam) for other applications too (not just the HU). I only kept it in shot for info.
I dont get rattling between the faceplate and HU. The sorbothane will be too thick and youll need to trim it long ways for it to fit properly.
That particular...
Hi Rory,
Im looking at the same Focal units and I think they have a depth of 65.25mm. I got the info here:
http://www.focal.tm.fr/gb/car/polyglass/fiche%20HP/130V2.pdf
You can see from the mechanical drawing at the bottom that they have a total depth of 65.25mm (presumably its in...
not another one...!?
Its a faulty coolant temperature sensor, ive lost count of the number of 182s that have had this, including me. Done under warranty without a problem. The sensor tells the engine that car is very cold, so it floods it with fuel which will cause a loss of power to begin...
Was out in the car this morning with a sound pressure level meter to hear exactly how loud the 182 OEM speakers were at a "louder than normal" volume and it measured 90 db peaks with 85 db continuous SPL at one metre inside the Clios cabin.
Now, bearing in mind the sensitivity of the Focal...
Seems to be a common thing with the 182, i occasionally have this rattle.
Alas, I think i have found it. I had a bang about the passenger door to locate the rattle and the only thing that was "loose" was the fuse box cover on the side of the dash at the passenger side. I took it off, reseated...

Would have bought the car sooner, but I lost 2 years NCB when i dinged someones car at 5pmh (the git claimed for a tiny mark that would have T-Cut out). Insurance on the 182 at the time would have been thousands, so had to wait :(.
I know what you mean, getting to 70/80 mph with plenty more to go you just cant get the best out of the 182 at all without upsetting plod.
I wonder why people run 400 bhp skylines in this country... :p, seems pointless to me.
But if its distorting, then either the amp is clipping or the speakers are being overdriven?
As for louder, the Focal units will (remember this is the interior of a clio from just one of the speakers) produce 106 db at 35w.
For reference, 100db is (in terms of loudness):
"Jet takeoff...
Ok here are the pics. Apologies for the slight blurryness, but the macro function isnt the best on that camera (and i wasnt digging out the tripod to take em!).
In the second pic, ive left the scalpel and sorbothane in the shot.
As you can see from the close up pic, ive put a thin sliver...
Hate to say it, but i did exactly the same thing with exactly the same headunit . Wired it all up, turned the ignition on, absolutely nothing.
Then i had a closer look and thought "why are these red and yellow wires not connected".
Doh.
Hmmm, i think id need to compare them side by side (so to speak) then.
I had a demo of Genesis 13cm components (the non-audiophile ones) running off a headunit and they were plenty loud with great clarity for me. I just wondered how much weight there was to "external amp is a must".
Call me cynical, but I think youre right - there is a certain element of "more watts makes it better" on car audio forums. Some of the best sounding/expensive hifi valve amps are 40w RMS per channel (although require very sensitive/efficient speakers)
Perhaps an external amp is better quality...
Still mulling over speakers and Focal Polyglass 130V2 look the business with smashing build quality and excellent sound reproduction (if pricey at £185).
However, when looking about the web there seems to be a huge obsession that they MUST be amped for them to be any good. Question is, why...
I wanna know this as well, im about 45 mins from Knockhill and i wanna open up the 182 since the roads are full of plod with hairdryers, mobile speed units and scameras. Im lucky if ive seen 90 mph from my 182.
I will get pics up tomorrow, ive been tweaking the vibra-killer this evening and ive changed the material im using.
I was using a porous foam used for dampening vibrations, but it didnt look too great so I changed it for...
Sorted:
Got hold of a very slim piece os black vibration absorbent foam that runs from top to bottom between the buttons. This was enough to kill any resonant vibrations from the buttons and im now all happy again. You can barely see it in the light and at night its invisible.
Ill put pics...
