Lol. Not touched it in a few weeks, been busy doing other cars for people (Clios god damnit!) and buying gypsey things..
Got a busy couple of weeks to come so will get on with it after those!
I was going to purchase an N40L just after christmas but kept putting it off, finally picked one up last week for £219 and £100 cash back considering the offer is still on until the end of April. I've ran an old crappy 600mhz box stacked up with all sorts of different sized IDE drives for the...
Yeah, its just standard celly filler primer - I guessed as much when I started. Im not overly bothered as alot of it will have to come of if/when I put a cage in it, so I've no real issue with having to do it again to get it right. It was just a cheap 'for now' covering to get everything the...
Go tell BMW that, the pedals have not moved - they are all in the stock location lol
Its just a sort of barn on a farm, need rid of the black shell now as its causing issues with space, but I've no way of getting rid at the moment
Bit of a change in plans as I was going to use Marham to test the car but its now been postponed until the end of May so I've got a bit more time. I've been painting panels over the past few weeks when I've had a bit of free time here and there, the majority of things are done bar the shell now...
Thats exactly what I said 4 years ago... best way to learn is to do it yourself and go in at the deep end, glad I did.
Saw your thread on the Zone earlier Rich, good update!
Its only natural if you've put so much time/effort/money into it over the years. I could say the same about my Mk1, simply due to the fact that by the point I had broken it into bits I knew it was the right thing to do as things were breaking at every track day - even with a brand new engine and...
I put a 6" stainless flexi in mine, although it was 3" dia. Wasn't so much damaging studs but I didn't want the gaskets to start blowing. Paid £30 so about the same price. It has plenty of flex, if you can get 6" in the space then go for that. I also braced the turbo and down pipe to two...
Not much been happening (well picture wise anyway)
I've welded up some of the holes on the bulkhead and have been spraying the panels. Bootlid/Bonnet and a few other bits are done. Planning on moving the black shell tomorrow to give me enough room to paint the shell over the weekend hopefully...
Yeah, going to be making a start on some of the panels either this evening or tomorrow evening. Doors/Wings/Bonnet/Mtec Kit/Bootlid etc, then probably do the shell in one go on the bank holiday weekend. Got the panels at the factory so I don't need to go up to the car to be doing those which...
Bit more done the other night. Roughly fitted the two best condition wings, then did the two front aero catches on the bonnet. You can see the pin locations for those on the top of the slam panel. Once they were in the correct position I could work out where the rear catches should be. Ended up...
Bit of an update, got a few bits done over the weekend/evenings - been trying to get all the big jobs and welding done before paint. Set about getting the seat mounts welded - not many images 'in progress' but I was just cracking on. Pretty much the same as what I did on the black shell, 3mm...
Yeah - plan is to get all the welding done this weekend, paint it next weekend, then put the rest back onto it over the bank holiday weekend giving me a few weeks spare until Marham after that!
Nah, cant be bothered as of yet, especially before putting a cage in.
Bolted the stuff on so it can be moved around (to get rid of the black shell) and because only blowing over the whole car..
Paint jobs only going to be a quick DIY matte/satin affair to get rid of all the red and get the kit...
While the car was in bits I thought about modifying the rear arms to put them into a double shear - but decided to make a thread on the E30 forum asking what other people thought too. It turned into a bit of an argument between a few people and ended in them talking about a lot of technical...
Yeah I used it for a year as a daily, took it all over Europe and towed the Clio round with it. £650ish with 4yr NCB. I would have kept it longer, would have probably done another 40k with ease, but I just wanted to buy something a bit newer as a daily so got the BMW.
I had a 2000 plate Passat TDI estate, it was only 110bhp and bought it on 180k. Lasted me a year and 40k miles, sold if for more than I paid, £950. Towed trailer + Clio no issue at all. As you probably know, you can't really go wrong with a VAG diesel.
Would more than likely be fine for a small trailer to run to the tip, but a car is a different matter.
Saw a 172 turn up to a trackday once pulling a concerted caravan chassis with a car on the back... Couldnt get more illegal lol.
You are correct - VRS cant 'legally' tow, just like Clios cant. More than likely down to the design of the rear end not being strong enough to pull weight. You need a tow car that has a braked towing weight limit of at least 1400kg+ to be 'legal' once you have your B+E licence.
If you're buying...
Depending on how far you go with a track car spec some probably wont even insure it. I gave up insuring the Mk1 as the amount I used it wouldnt justify the cost of Tax/Insurance/MOT. I just trailered it instead after getting B+E licence.
