Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
After it had been running last night I turned it off and left it for 5 mins... When I went to start it again, ignition stage 2 was fine, everything came on and the fuel pump primed etc, but when you went to position 3 to start it nothing happened, it was just...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Borrowed a key barrel from another Mk1 last night, started every time and seemed to be no hesitation like my barrel tends to have.
Hopefully the 'new' barrel from ebay will show up and sort the problem
I get a noticeable difference in steering using my Superleggeras (4.9kg) over the Williams wheels (7.3kg+), all I can put it down to is the weight as they are both the same width. Although, the tyre you use is the killer...
9.7kg for an R888 - Normal tyres are quite a bit lighter from the...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Alright no problem - Il chase my dad up if not, he was the one that took it to the posty with the rest of his stuff..
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Well I think the problem has been found (I hope anyway!)
Found the 172 barrel, but the connector was different. I removed the wires from the connector to see if they were the same size crimps as the Mk1, unfortunately they are not so its not as easy as...
Its normal to have a bit of oil on that seal/around the breather plate, thats what its there for. The oil wouldnt last long in the inlet anyway, and even if it got into the engine/cylinder it would just burn off straight away..
Wont be causing non starting issues - the only problem I can think...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
I think ive got a 172 one somewhere - came with the interior loom I was given. The connector is different but its worth trying I guess, il have a look later!
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
How do you mean a conventional switch? I took one apart a while ago and its just a little rotating switch inside - got four wires coming out of the barrel itself (Perm Live, 2 x Ign Live, Starter). Although, I could never get that one working properly again...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Yeah, well im pretty sure the pump is running on cranking. I guess I can confirm it by popping the feed off the rail and see if anything comes out when cranking...
Its been the same today, but once or twice ive just had nothing on the key at all, it will...
I just use a Pug 406 2.0 Gasket - with the proper 'cups' in the manifold. Then two solid bolts with washers and nuts. I put them as tight as they will go, then I have my actual flexi joint on the downpipe lower down that was added in. As said though, ive got pretty much zero engine movement...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Yup its on a switched live. Ive had my hand on the pump on cranking and im sure its running - although its hard to tell with the amount everything vibrates. It was stood all last night and started first time on the key this morning, yet other times it takes...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
I had thought of that, but infortunately ive not got a spare one anymore. Might be worth trying..
Possibly could be, Il check it next time it does it. Ive got a spare fuel pump I could swap to for testing it anyway, we shall see.
I tried to get a video...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Another week off? lol
Only ECU and crank sensor to try really, its 100% not the relays. Problem is it will only do it after its been sat for 15-20 mins, so its just a matter of waiting around...
It will just end up moving your whole exhaust system and putting stress on stuff.
Its not too bad on mine with 5 engine mounts, as there is virtually no engine movement. I use solid bolts, but then again I have a flexi joint on my downpipe that I added in just before it joins the center section...
