The exact same happened to Adams^, we could hear it sparking and missing but not see it, then we realised a couple of the leads had tiny pin prick holes in them causing it. Replaced it and its been fine since... No idea why they were anywhere near the vent though as mine was always fine, must...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
I use a very old Panasonic DV (Tape) camera, its getting past its best now but its lasted for two years. Il probably replace it next year with something new. The mount is just a tripod head clamped to the cage with exhaust clamps, works perfectly..
I cut a...
How long do they last?
I bought them and they were 1mm above being not road legal, the lad had taken them off because they were getting close. Ive done Rockingham, Cadwell, Mallory and Oulton on them and they have barely gone down. They are still JUST above the wear indicators for being road...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Thanks for the comment, its been a lot of work upto now, but its pretty much there - just a few bits to tidy up. I bought the car two years ago on Tuesday, the night I got it back the power steering pump fell off and it all went from there, lol.
As for...
They require too much upkeep, lol.
I still need to get down to yours Ben.. Il PM you in the next day or two and sort something for next week if thats ok?
I think everyone who came will agree the weather was great yesterday and everyone got away without any major issues. Myself, Whiteley, ROB91, Jamie Rigby, AdamAnderton, Jams, Ian_S, andyhunt and Superbenj88 were all out on track. Quite a few of us were getting photos etc and im sure they will...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Along with the solenoid crimp I also noticed this...
That'l be why the motor wasnt turning over then. It was just resting on the metal contact but not properly connected... So I took both starters apart and made one 'good' one from the two broken ones...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Well, the car lasted Oulton Park yesterday. Drove faultlessly, although it wouldnt start by itself so had to keep bumping it! Il do a proper update about Oulton later...
The new key barrel arrived yesterday when I was out, so I fitted that first to try it...
Re: Clio TT (172 cup)
Its very wierd, mine was spot on at mallory and it was the 172 pump too, first time its ever happened yesterday at Oulton too! Il have to look into it
Re: Clio TT (172 cup)
All I swapped was the pump itself inside (like the one you bought off eBay), the housing is just a normal Mk1 one... Was proper bogging down though for about 15 seconds coming out of corners, like cutting out numerous times then kicking back in once it had settled...
Re: Clio TT (172 cup)
Standard 172 engine mate, just raised limiter. Im running the 172 pump inside a Mk1 housing so it fits my tank. It never used to do it with the original Mk1 pump, as ive done many many days before and never had an issue, just seems to be since ive used the 172 unit. Had to...
Re: Clio TT (172 cup)
Mine was doing this today at Oulton if the fuel was below 1/3 of a tank. Never had it happen before, ever. Although now its a 172 pump, and it only happened on sharp right handers...
25 litres is only 18kg ;)
Oil thing is wierd, im sure it shouldnt come up the breather pipes that much regardless of temprature... maybe something wrong with engine?
I much prefer mine now that the 'doughnut' joint is bolted solid as tight as it will go with no springs. Flexi joint just before it meets the center section to allow movement and its all been fine!
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Well I checked the solenoid wire earlier, seemed fine. But to be sure I put a brand new crimp on, fitted back to the starter motor and made sure the connection was tight. Checked the continuity and it was perfecly fine, so id say a wiring issue cant be the...
I would if every car/setup was the same, sadly it isnt :(
As you now know matteh using the 5th mount has allowed you to use the standard (ish) dogbone mount over the coops item, which you prefer. Whereas Ive got my downpipe setup with a coops mount so a copy of it would probably not fit...
Its...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Yeah - its pretty wierd.
Im just about to check the solenoid wire to be sure, but im quite confident that its on very tight. Thing is though, when it does this, the ingition comes on fine in position 2, fuel pump primes etc, and the car will bump start fine...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Nothing at all when you try and start, the solenoid does nothing...hence why i thought it was a problem with the barrel in the end (like it not giving 12v to the starter/solenoid wire), but I dont think it is. Although, there must have been some sort of...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Starter was replaced when it was put back together earlier this year, always started perfect etc - practically no use at all. Although I suppose they can just 'go'.
No heatshield nope, never had one since the coversion was first done in early 2009 though...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Spoke too soon! :banghead:
No matter what I tried this morning it would not even turn over, although after I smashed the f*ck out of the starter motor with a hammer it did. Been fine all day too after that, as it has been for the past few days. Very very odd.
Did you not start with a 172 Cat for the downpipe bit? A williams size cat should easily fit in there instead of my 'straight' section? Only took us a few hours in total to do the whole thing, fits any Mk1 exhaust system... Ive managed to get the downpipe out through the top once if the car is...
