Everythings on the grandstand side again this year Ad...only people in the paddock are the ones that are on the FCS track-time that go through the 'drive in' tunnel... Talk about eventful with the filler cap, didnt know you were on about that last night lol. BTW any Mk1 cap will fit and work...

    track tyres

If the car is setup incorrectly and the person has no idea how to setup tyre pressures - yes. Otherwise they are fine on track, quite a few of us used them over 4-5 trackdays (Oulton, Brands, Cadwell x 2) and still had life left in them - and thats driving them HARD. They are a budget tyre...

    inner drivers side cv joint(valver)

Id say new shaft too - a lot less hassle! My tripod thing had a circlip then just tapped it off gently, came off really easy. 172 shaft though so probably different.

    ABS question

Yours must be ABS based then :( It could be entirely possible to fit a Cup box, along with the speedo sensor - and then get the wire that usually goes to the ABS system for the speed reading and put it onto the speedo sensor instead. I dont see why Renault would change the fomat of the signal...

    ABS question

Depends if your car currently gets its speed reading from the back of the gearbox, or the ABS system... Check on the back of the box and see if you have a speedo sensor plugged in, near the exhaust manifold... Seems Renault were pretty random when fitting the 172 Ph2s out with the types of Speedo

    Gearbox whine

My JB3 did 4/5 trackdays with the diff whining to f*ck, then the circlip popped at Mallory. It would probably do the same amount again without any issue I rekon if I could be bothered fixing it!

    Naples MK1 Track car project

The bottom end he bought didnt have a dipstick tube - when we went to fit one of my spares we realised whoever had the bottom end must have snapped the old one off, as there was still part of it stuck in the hole... Couldnt get it out so Adam took the engine out, removed the sump and removed...

    FAO j0rd & Whiteley

There probably is some way of caluclating it but its easy enough to pop them back out and adjust it slightly if you get it wrong... Cover the splines in copper grease once you get them out (might be a tough job if they havent been out in a while) so you can easily adjust if need be

    Mk1 valvers/Hybrids

Is that Cadwell I spot Jay? You need to go again tbh.... *cough* 7th July *cough* ;)
  17. F

    FAO j0rd & Whiteley

Easy.... Get the back on axle stands near the rear beam mounts - then take the weight of the rear beam in the middle on a jack... Pop the caps off, put a 30mm socket over the end of the torsion bar with a long M10 bolt through the middle. Put a washer and nut onto the bolt and tighten it...

Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project [Year 3 - Engine and Chassis Rebuild]

Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project Yeah....so its gotta be the CV thats fucked then, good 10mm of movement in the shaft going in and out of it! FFS.

Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project [Year 3 - Engine and Chassis Rebuild]

Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project Yeah, but there should be *some* movement - correct? Or do you mean movement as in the CV should be solid and the movement should come from the gearbox end? lol

Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project [Year 3 - Engine and Chassis Rebuild]

Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project Yeah, found the value on here! TBF I usually just do them tight tight and never had a problem, then found the value on here and it was just like 1/10th of a turn more if that until the torque wrench clicked...just so I knew it was tight and not that causing...

    1994 172'd Mk1 Valver Track Car

They're too tall IIRC I modded mine (machined hubs down and made the holes 0.5mm larger) in October 2008, covered 20k and alot of trackdays and they are still as they were - same coilovers, same setup, never had an issue like this... The only difference is - I milled my hubs down on a milling...

    1994 172'd Mk1 Valver Track Car

Yeah they are just plated/coated, eventually comes off and goes crusty (over the past year on mine)... I have always ran the coilovers, so I just measured the width of the coilover and machined the hub down to that which is a very tight fit on mine just how I wanted it... Chris originally...
