Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Had the cam covers off to check the cambelt/tensioners etc this morning, all looks fine.
Im pretty sure its the waterpump, very loud rattling/rubbing noise when running. You can sort of hear it as a fast knocking noise in the background of...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Cool, just posted up a request for some pictures to check it out... Im sure the cup setup uses those holes though? I thought it was just the Mk1 non-pas brackets that didnt...

Need to swap master cylinder and run new brake lines.
If you could remove all the copper lines from a 172 Cup, then swap the master cylinder, it would all bolt on without any problems. Or make your own brake lines.
ABS computer is a different thing, you'd need to swap the ABS pump in the engine bay for one from the sport, the computer is built into that.
Although, if you swapped the ABS pump/computer, you'd need the sport ABS rings all round (i.e. Fit them on the front, or fit the sport hubs/driveshafts...
Yep it does, but they run the same ABS settings as the sports on the ABS computer so its compatible (amount of teeth). If you went and bolted it onto a 1.4 that previously had drums, the ABS computer would be confused and throw the ABS on every time you press the brake most probably.
Someone on...
ABS system wont be compatible and you'l have problems afaik. 182 ABS rings differ from non-sport drum ABS rings, so it confuses the ABS computer.
If you remove the ABS completely then yeah it would work no problem, but thats major work.
If only :dapprove: Id have a DCI rack on straight away!
The dimensions of the moutning are different, but its not impossible it could be done with a bit of engineering, not sure about the column either though
Brembo HC Fronts can be had for £50, standard rears inc bearings £90, rear pads £15-20 from factors? thats £160 then you still need front pads....
So wouldnt say its a bad price
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Might be an engine rebuild too now :(
Just drove the car and had a major constant rubbing noise that changed with revs. Severe lack of power and a dodgy smell from outside too. Managed to get it home fine, but i've no idea what it is...
A guy on c16v threw up some technical drawings for a plate to replace the circlip once, cant find them but his involved tapping some threads and bolting a round plate inside the box (copy of the diff plate on a 182 etc) this looks similar
Re: Project 172 **** ITB'S - 204bhp *** February Redline Feature

Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
More done on the cage today, was going to make a start on the floor bars but other things came up and these bits alone took ages to get right!
First up was drivers door bars being welded solid, then got on with the gussets for them. I thought I had most of...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Mediatemple.net mate, I have quite a few sites for other people that ive done so its just on there too.
No wont fit, lol.
Should have said a while back Daniel, i would have sold you one of my GT width ones ;)
Chris is now having it for a passenger seat and one of the new ones are mine, both running one standard for driver and one GT for passenger, lol.
Odd that i was running 1 x 172 Ph1 wishbone and 1 x 172 Cup wishbone, which were the exact same dimensions when I measured them before fitting then? Just the castor/balljoint hole location was different... Ive since changed to two Ph2 wishbones due to fitting polybushes etc.
Also a 172 Ph2 Cup...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
After running this on my engine for 4-5 months, along with a couple of trackdays, I decided to offer them to other Mk1 owners in the form of a group buy. After I got 10 people interested I got making them..
Engine movement is reduced dramatically when...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
There is little motivation at the moment as its all metal work, grinding/cutting/welding/etc. Very boring and takes a lot of time, but it needs to be done before engine/electrics/etc can be started.
I think I mentioned previously that the seat bars are...
