Fair enough, seems logical. I did have a leak from that area but i think its from the sump joint and not the crank seal itself, still not had chance to pop the sump off yet though.
Cool... Mine felt 100% fine, nice setoff, nice drive and nice low biting point. Never had any funny smells either...
Crank seal fitted in situ with flywheel off, just pushed in im guessing yeah? I wasnt going to replace it but for the sake of the price of it I might...
No idea, was just the one that came with the bottom end and it went straight in. I have another flywheel that ive machined and skimmed myself so I know its 100% flat, but its obviously not yet fitted, so the other one could be nackered for all I know, looks fine to the eye though!
The clutch...
Yeah, im pretty much 100% sure it was fully lined up... Last time I had the clutch off I couldnt get the box back on until it was 100% lined up perfect, so im guessing if its not lined up it wont go on?
Think im just going to get one of those Valeo ones above, same as standard and seems an OK...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Ah, I ran the column lowered by 10mm last year, which I think was one of the main things that put more stress on the original mount. So basically I made the new mount to that height, so it should be just where it was last year. I also...
Putting pressure on the bearing and turning it turns smoothly but every so often (every few turns) there feels like there is a notch/dirt under it, like its a bit gritty... sound fucked?
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Yeah, I did think about if the bearing in the column went, or if the column got damaged etc, but decided against thinking about that possibility until it happens, so just welded it solid.
I doubt Il be going properly manual anytime soon...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
No, I just went straight in with profiling the CDS taking it bit by bit until it was a perfect fit...never thought of using either of those to get the profile correct, good idea lol.
As for welding solid its already been done, was one of...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Car was towed a few days ago to get the last of the welding sorted. Got the windscreen out quite easily, although the method we used made an absolute mess of glass everywhere lol.
Strut Bars - Done
Steering Column Welded Solid - Done...
Yeah the wrap may not catch fire if you set it alight directly, but if fluid is spilt onto it and that catches fire it will just hold the fluid and keep burning, happened to Matteh on track last year :(
Yeah the flange can just be pressed out, will probably need to replace the bearing too.
Is there any thread sticking out of the back of the flange? Im guessing its snapped flush on the wheel face...check to see if its sticking through on the back as you might be lucky and be able to wind it out...
Steering going light sounds like tracking, its worth getting it checked anyway as most places do free-to-check and only charge if you need it adjusting. When I run my car with more toe out for trackdays my steering is light over bumps in the road. It might look the same height, but if you think...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Ive made a bracket for it to go onto the side of the head :)
Been cracking on over the past few days, finally got most of the metalwork done and ready to be welded in solid.
First up was the seat bars, profiled them to the plates and...
Yeah that's when the last one was replaced, this one cracked a few months after, its only coming out to finish the cage and have the paint done. No doubt itl crack all the way across once its out so it will need a new one anyway :(
