Tuition every time but there is a point where you obviously want more out of the base car.
Bushes - standards in good nick are absolutely fine.
Strutbraces - most of the ones I've seen don't actualy bolt in well enough to make any difference and the Mk2 Clio shell is pretty stiff to be fair...
It's extremely good for a road car. Suspension wise its no firmer than some sporty BMW's/Audi's and has very good compliance.
Initial turn in is good and oversteer can be acomplished at any point with a bit of a lift. Holds its line very, very well under power.
It could do with a bit more...
Haven't got a clue who MBPerformance are I'm afraid. This one came straight from China for 35 quid where they're hacking all sort of 'short shift' type things out.
I modified it by cleaning up the piss poor machining, spinning up some new nylon bushes for it and reducing the amount it...
Quite literaly ROFL at needing to be lower. It's absolutely 100% perfect for a road car. Front is around 15mm lower than standard and rear around 5mm lower. Still has loads of damper travel and no need to slow down to silly low speeds to scrape over speed bumps. Pot holes don't put it off line...
As I fitted some Bilstein Coilovers yesterday (courtesy of JamSport) and cleaned it today, for the first time in weeks, it seemed rude not to take some decent photos of it:
Renault Badge Quality Control Failure!
Bilstein Coilover.
What CL's do to Turini's!!!

Input shaft bearing would be my guess as well. Failed input shaft bearing can sound very much like a failing release bearing only with more weight behind it!

Mail me the map and I'll take the pops and bangs out then get to Paul and have him cal it properly on the rollers.
Danny there has to be some fuel injected on the over run to make it pop/flame. If a decel fuel cut strat was active then it wouldn't pop or flame - you can't make flames out of...
You're assuming the fully floating crank pulley doesn't move/relax when the tension of the bottom pulley/securing bolt is removed. If it does and you've marked it on the pulley then the timing is no longer correct, even if the cam locking tool and crank locking pin still fit. A single degree can...
Get yourself a riv-nut tool and riv nut the cooler to the bumper bar with through bolts to stop it moving.
You can take a temp reading off the take-off plate but if you want an 'average' temperature then making up a sump plug which carries the temp sender is an easy way!

As above mate. You'll need to spend a lot more than 500 notes to better the standard suspension if you intend to use it mainly on the road.
Cheap coilovers with way too stiff springs can work quite well on smooth tracks but ruin the car on B-Roads and rough A-Roads as they lack the required...
Bit of a problem as they don't tend to have RS232 and Bosch, Pectel/Pi, Gems, Life and Motec don't tend to write MacOS versions of their software!

Mine has a GSM modem in it with a pull out antenna at the side of the screen. Used to be very useful for e-mailing Cal's and setups from trackside before circuits all got wireless access!
Toughbooks rock IMHO - they are silent as well as they use the magnesium alloy case as the heatsink rather...
And still uses it everyday?
My daily use laptop for data off load from cars, cal work, t'internet etc is a Panasonic CF-27 Toughbook.
It's a PII 300 with 256MB of ram and a 6GB hard disk running XP.
Still works like it was new and manages 3 hours off a full charge.
I've tried to replace...
£500 Weitecs are not the 'right' coilovers. A grand of Bilsteins is getting towards being right with the right geo and some stiffer rear springs.
Personaly I'd buy a good condition Mk2 shell, pref high mileage and rebuild it as new with choice mods. My 172 Cup will be getting my fresh built...
Worth noting I life them at 7500KM's on the race F4R engines - they don't last much beyond this.
On a road engine that gets clean, good oil often they should do 100K or so quite happily.

Valuation Please
Insurance Co have just chased me for a valuation on the Cup. Apparently an owners club valuation is acceptable.................
So what do we reckon a 52 Plate 172 Cup is worth if it has:
- Fresh built, as new F4R 736 engine
- Fresh built gearbox
- Rebuilt driveshafts/CV's...
Fake Brembo brake covers - like fake watches IMHO. 99% of people won't notice or give a s**t. The 1% which do notice will know you've stuck plastic covers from e-bay over the top of your standard brakes and brand you an utter, utter c**t.
Your choice!
