Yeah I think now is the time to try and get some enjoyment out of it. Get the essentials done and then have some fun. You can always make more tweaks later.
Very easy for a project to get very long-winded as you know already I'm sure, so be good for you to have some fun over the summer!
Ha! I know I know, but it would be interesting, just for the sake of science. I would guess you are right. Getting good runner length to keep the torque up would be difficult. Should be a riot now for sure, good torque for a little four banger.
I am looking forward to a ride some time!
Epic Mark, just epic. Just shows what a proper engine can do. No fuss with ITBs, just proper bits doing the business. I must say though, it would be interesting to see what a set of ITBs did for it, whether they had much impact on output or driveability.
When's my ride?!
That looks lovely!
I was always more of a MK3 guy myself but I did have two MK2s; an Equipe and a 1600E.
Orions get a bit of stick but I've always had a real soft spot for them.
I knew a lad with a blue Eclipse many years ago. His had S2 RST wheels on it. The Orion Equipe benefitted from the mighty 1.4 CVH, the Eclipse was a 1.3 wasn't it?
Sadly, seeing that car has made me look through some old pictures from when I was in the Orion club, so here are some of them! If...
Went and did a few photos of this today for a mag, so so cool. Orion Equipe with Cossie 4x4 wheels, Cossie brakes, coilovers and a 2.0 Zetec engine. Soon to be fitted with a supercharger. All original inside, evendown to the tape player. Still has dealer plates and stickers, just so understated...
My car is on all standard stuff with Eibach Pro springs and is still brilliant fun on track. as you say, it's not about lap records, just about having fun and a standard car in good nick is more than up to it :)
The problem you've got is that performance on road and track are very different. If you make it a great car on track, it will be terrible on the road and a good road car will be compromised on track.
My personal view is that I can't understand why anyone would fit coilovers to a road car...
Indeed. Reyland built some great cars over the years. In fact, it's a good excuse for some Reyland p**n...
And a couple of EsCos pictures I found while looking for these...
I tell you what, you can keep your Evo/Impreza, the Escort is king of the rally reps...
Cheers. Mine started life as a 1.8 LX but my friend had converted it to Ghia X spec inside so it had heated, electric leather, trip computer etc etc. They were such great cars too.
Yes, I know the car you mean, had Cosworth running gear. It's still about, lives in Ireland these days but doesn't...
