Bearings can dry out and grind without getting play in them. That's exactly what happened to my neighbour's car the other day, but on a rear wheel.

I'd have thought it would affect the bluetooth, but there are adapters which can get your stalk controls back. If the bluetooth is part of the stereo, you could always get a headunit with bluetooth built in.
